you mention panetta. panetta is not a liberal. he served under bush and was retained by obama.

I think you are confusing Gates with Panetta. Panetta was Bill Clinton's chief of staff back in the day.

I won't disagree that our foreign policy sucks sometimes.

I'm not sure the Crazy Cooter letter did anything to be honest. But it was funny.

Probably not but it isn't a bad strategy to uproot a powerful opponent. It appears the Democrat challenger was put out there as pretty much cannon fodder so I doubt they would resort to such tactics when they already put up the surrender flag (a flag they are quickly trying to modify).

I think the tea party came out strong and voted when most everyone didn't even realize a primary was occuring. Any Cantor supporters figured it was in the bag and probably didn't even bother voting.

Either way it should be interesting. Now you have an election between two people that a week ago each figured they had a bazillion in one chance of winning. I bet they are both crapping their pants just a little.

So I live in the VA 7th and am a Democrat. Everyone in this district hated Cantor, even Republicans. Second, a lot of my Dem friends went out and voted against Cantor. That's not been reported very heavily in the news but it is absolutely true. Was that enough to tip it? Who knows but I know we all felt we had a better chance in the general against Brat than Cantor.

Interestingly, my father in law teaches Economics at Randolph Macon, therefore works right with Bratt. He said he is a nice guy, very smart but CRRRRAAAAAZZZYYY about immigration. My father in law is a traditional Rockefeller Republican and I know he won't be voting for Brat. The opponent is also a RM professor. The little 1200 person school is getting lots of publicity.

Immigration is getting out of hand right now. These kids that they just let in cost us $250/day each. Where is this money coming from?

And Brat isn't against immigration from what I have seen, he is against illegal immigration. I'm still amazed that supposed scholars , both liberal and neocon, can't find the difference between the two.

He is against a path to citizenship for existing illegal immigrants and the children. So yes, it's illegal immigration, but he is in the camp of 'send them back', including the children. You may not see this on his website, but like I said, my father in law teaches with him and has known him since he joined the college in 96.

As far as no one knowing there was a primary and then tea party flooding the zone, that was absolutely NOT the case. There were signs all over Henrico (by far the biggest part of the district) for Cantor and Brat. You couldn't drive around without knowing there was a primary happening.

They should be sent back, at least these new ones flooding in the past year.

Let the smear campaign begin! On a bias scale of 1 - 10, this is a 9. He makes comments and the article spins it into other peoples opinions and makes it look like he said it. And the "journalist" makes it like agreeing with a libertarian ideal is the equivilant of satan worshiping.

Also, another good reason to never use Facebook.

Seeing as the democrat and republican candidates teach at the same school, I think the public deserves to see an academic decathalon, ala Billy Madison style, to judge the true quality of these gentlemen.

Can it be like Dan and Dave where they both fail?

I actually think this will be a refreshingly positive campaign, except for the third party smear jobs that are bound to hit.

It's possible. Cantor can't run as an independent because of a "sore loser" rule, but I'm sure someone with a bigger public persona could.

There is no way these guys are ready for this. They are going to get chewed up and spit out. They are not that good at lying yet and it will be only a matter of time before they say something that will be turned into a weapon against them. Just look at how Yahoo attacked a 23 year old before the dust of the primary had even settled.

The sharks smell blood in the water.

This is a another good example of why term limits are needed ... but it's also sad because there are signs of severe short term memory loss in this example ...

Senator Thad Cochran Either Didn't Know — or Forgot — About Eric Cantor's Loss

Depending on the order in which a pair of interviews with embattled Mississippi Thad Cochran were conducted, the longtime se either didn't know, or totally forgot about, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's stunning primary defeat on Tuesday.

The story of Cantor's loss is no doubt the biggest one to emerge out of this year's midterms, and is an unprecedented electoral upset in the history of Congress. It should have a particular resonance for Team Cochran. Cochran is an "establishment" Republican who is about to proceed to a run-off election against a conservative, Tea Party-backed challenger, who is running on a platform similar to that of the conservative, Tea Party-backed challenger to took out Cantor earlier this week. Cochran himself came in second in the first round of his primary against challenger Chris McDaniel, but Mississippi rules require the two to face off again in a runoff primary on June 24.

So, many were shocked to see Fox News's interview with Cochran where he appears to be completely unaware of Cantor's loss. According to Fox News, the interview was taped "two days after Eric Cantor’s primary loss received wide-spread national attention." It aired on Friday.
