After thinking it over, I agree that this is not a 1st ammendment case.

I don't agree that private conversation should land you in public hot water, but it is what it is. Based on what I'm learning about this guy, he should have been booted long ago.

  • 1st ammendment rights only apply to being punished by the government, not private commerce. NBA doesn't want this guy in their group, they can force him to sell if they want. That d-bag of a girlfriend fucked him over royally. You dump the guy if he's a racist, you don't ruin his fucking life and turn him into enemy #1 in the US.

That d-bag of a girlfriend was only looking out for his money, nothing else. Typical gold digger.

Both the league and the girlfriend knew he was a racist long before now.

I'm pretty sure his hookers weren't actually crying over this.

Anyway, I was more intrigued by the title of the link midway through the article -

With Larry Ellison wanting to bid on this team, I could see the winning bid reach $1.5B ... which is the equivilent of one of us splurging on a nice lawnmower considering how much money Larry has.

By the way, Sterling bought the Clippers for $12.5M back in the early eighties.

    Leon Jenkins .... solid name.

Looks like Leon is resigning. Wonder if Leon has a nice BMW from questionable sources parked in front of his house ...

Now I'm thinking there is a very good chance he may have a BMW from questionable sources parked in front of his house ....

Jenkins had his own legal problems, which also came into focus this week. For years, he has been banned from practicing law in California based on allegations of corruption when he was a young judge in Detroit.

In 1988, federal prosecutors charged Jenkins with extortion and racketeering conspiracy, saying he requested and received money, jewelry, a handgun and other gifts to dismiss traffic tickets and other misdemeanors. While Jenkins was acquitted after two trials, in 1991 the Michigan Supreme Court removed him as a judge.

He had "systematically and routinely sold his office and his public trust," then-Chief Justice Michael Cavanagh said at the time.

In April, three judges with California's State Bar Court denied Jenkins' most recent request to practice law again. The judges lauded Jenkins' volunteer work with the NAACP and other organizations, but they cited several instances in which they said he misrepresented his finances or other aspects of his personal life.

It was a predictable outcome. Of course there are no laws about expressing one's views, but when someone is in the public eye and makes money off of that public they can't expect to keep their jobs or their business when they publicly alienate the majority of their customers. As JimmyV said, fucking weird racket to be in if you're racist against black people. Maybe his next career will be in the rap and R&B industry? image

    How incredibly unfortunate.
