Awards Ceremonies?
I think Nick Cave got it right:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rynl10atWo0#t=25
Nick Cave reads his letter to MTV on being nominated for the award for 'Best Male Artist' in 1996.
And, yeah, the first comment on Youtube is mine:
'It's a shame that more musicians don't share his level of integrity, and his loathing of the juvenile idiocy of awards ceremonies, which serve to reduce every kind of artistic expression to the level of a competition.
Awards ceremonies are such an ugly and pernicious corporate wank-fest, that I'm surprised we haven't yet seen an awards ceremony for 'The Best Awards Ceremony'. Though we can only hope that this silly guff will completely disappear up it's own butthole in the very near future.
Full respect to Nick Cave for refusing to allow his music to be co-opted by the world of shallow egotists and money-Nazis at MTV, and thereby warped into a gimmick.'
