I ranked No Code by track...how would you rank it?

Why so little love for I'm open?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'm Open is terrible or anything like that. The only reason why I ranked it low was because it is an unconventional "song", if you could even call it a song. I actually like it a lot, along with "I'm Still Here", I just don't know if it should've been on the album taking up a track.

If I could choose, I would've had Mankind and I'm Open be B-Sides, while including "I've Got Shit" and "Long Road' onto No Code, as both of those songs would've fit perfectly on No Code.

Just thinking the same thing. I'm Open is one of my favorite parts of the PJ's best album.

    Glade to hear so.
Perhaps you should read the Pearl Jam words and music section.
There is an interesting thread about I'm open.
    http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/139807/inspiration-for-i-m-open#latest

    That one?

I will do that. Thanks for the tip.
    Yup that's the one.
I myself never thought that there were more than one moon.
But as a child I did have the idea that it followed us back home.

I agree with you that I got Id and long road would have fitted nicely on No code.
However I'm open fits even better because of the experimental nature of the album.
I understand you comparison to I'm still here, but it also falls somewhat short I feel.
The reason I think so is because I'm open is fully worked out and I'm still here to me is only a sketch.
You're right about calling it unconventional, but there are alot of bands that have little pieces of music like that.
I think I'm open is placed quite nicely in the tracklist. It's a majestic opener for Around the bend.
One is about a the loss of the inner child and the other is a sweet lullabye, it's almost
like he's trying to prevent the lyric's for I'm open from happening to the subject in Around the bend.

I'm open fits very well with Sometimes and Present tense in terms of sound and style.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

That really was hard! Not even sure if I'm okay with my rankings and I worked on it for ten minutes, lol.
(I'm 100% sure about I'm Open though. It's the only song on the album that I actually don't really like. I just don't feel it - has an insincere or contrived tone for me.)

Not to jump on you, but I am just very curious because it is so far from how I feel about the song.

Holy Balls, after listening to Red Mosquito several times, I think it jumped up a couple ranks for me, it sounds incredible live. I hope to see it in person one day.

The inclusion of Ben Harper really enhances the live version of the track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYAZev6otCc

And who could forget the famous Live On Two Legs version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd97McRleSE

I just just don't feel it, lol. I mean, I don't sense the real feeling in Eddie's voice or intonations.. As though HE isn't really feeling it, and rather just doing a job of making it sound real. Like maybe he already did it a dozen times within an hour, and by the time a take suited them well enough for publication the words had lost all Meaning. It had just become a recitation and some acting... Like maybe Eddie couldn't retain the true emotion in the delivery like he does with songs sung as opposed to spoken word. The result kind of feels contrived and even pretentious to me, as though art is being forced. That's how the essence of it feels to me.

I am glad some people like it though! :D

I do understand what you mean. At least better than I did before.
The diliverance of the words is somewhat robotic, but I think it has a purpose and it was done in purpose.
I think it is meant to show how hopeless and lifeless that grown up actually is.

I 100% disagree. Those are not No Code-era songs in the truest sense. If anything you can substitute Black, Red and Yellow for one song...but that's about it.
