They are of less compression (lossless) and therefore higher quality than mp3. Thought everyone knew that. All bands who sell downloads price them about the same~~~~~~~Vinyl For Sale (shipping costs in North America included)~~~~~~~

Edit: The only "Shame" involved is when people buy the lame mps's and then trade them as lossless (which they are NOT) to other people

Yes bands do charge more for FLAC but I don't think it costs any more money for the band to rip their music to flac instead of mp3. It might cost a few extra cents for 1gb of bandwidth opposed to 100mb, but that's it. They both encoded from the same master and encoding is running the program with different settings...
I can live with them charging the extra 5 bux, but I wish the free 10c Analog code would work for FLAC. Were Analog members, we like better audio quality. Why would give an mp3 only code to people who pay extra just for the annual single on vinyl.0 -

I know what FLAC files are, I just think they are milking fans by charging more for them. In theory, our country, the U.S., is a capitalist's wet dream. Pearl Jam isn't doing anything I haven't seen down by countless other bands i.e. Phish, Umphrey's McGee, Peter Gabriel, Black Crowes, etc...
They charge more for flac, IMO, because they are more valuable than the mp3 files. At least they are to me (I want my DOG to hear every frequency, even if I can't perceive them all!) Just like blu-ray discs cost more than regular dvds. Zod is probably correct about production costs being pretty much equal. I'm sorry you feel you are getting milked by paying more for the flacs. I'd be pissed too if I felt the same. You might even be right. I just assume everyone charged more for flacs because that is what I've experienced but I have never really asked myself "Why?" I do know that I have stored flacs on cd-rs from years ago which allows me the ability to burn a fresh new copy for listening at any time~~~~~~~Vinyl For Sale (shipping costs in North America included)~~~~~~~

It'll work for FLAC. It just gives you a $9.99 discount, so you end up paying $5.Zod said:...I can live with them charging the extra 5 bux, but I wish the free 10c Analog code would work for FLAC.

Most people know this. He wants the same price for all digital content. Since it is digital and all. Costs the same to make, and the same to store.HesCalledDyer said:

It is better so they are charging more. May be just that simple.0

I generally don't buy digital music files, but the only other one I have bought FLAC was the same price. Also what happened to the raw 64k bootlegs being available the day after the show? The show I saw in 2003 the files were available the next day and had more content than the final bootleg. The hard drive they were on failed so they are gone now, I would love to have those back. That's when I learned the hard way to back up my data, been backing up ever since.0

It's the CDR option that's the true ripoff. They charge 17 bucks for something that costs less than 5 bucks to produce. It's easy to tell because they only charge an extra dollar for a third disc.0

You can easily convert FLAC to ALAC without any degradation in sound.RoleModelsinBlood31 said:Anyone have any show thats a downloadable ALAC? I'd love to get it from you, hook a brother up. AFLAC sounds like a duck
I agree FLAC should cost more as the files are larger and they cost more to create and maintain. It is a higher value to people who care. If you don't care about the better sound, MP3 will be good enough for you and you won't have to pay as much. I'm glad 9.99 of the cost is covered by the analog membership code.Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river0 -
Newsflash. The band is a business. I know it is shocking...evdjj3j said:
