never understood the fascination with this one, so many shows are better and if you just want to listen there's other forms of media so it virtually has to be the investment

I'm with you. It's a good show but outside of the limited copies, I'm not sure why it drives the price to $1,000+. I've got one that I spin and one that I've got sealed. My brother didn't want it back in the day so I had him buy me a copy of it on his 10C account. It's a good album, but the craze around it is crazy.

The fact that I love this show so much but cannot have it on wax is frustrating. It's funny how people who have one (or even two) claim that they don't even like the show that much. A nice way to rub it into the face of those who love it and cannot afford it because of the stupid craze.

I'm assuming that those who are buying them are more flippers and we will see them later for more and more money.

    Hmm.
Pretty sure there are plenty of fans out there who would buy it to play it. I definitely would if i had the money.
It is quite possible and hopefully it was. I just imagine those that are in "the business" of making money off of collectibles will continue to collect and hold, only to flip later. That is one record that will continue to increase in value for a few more years. I hope I'm wrong though!
If you collect and hold to sell later how is it flipping? I thought flipping was selling something immediately after obtaining it for a profit?
If you collect and hold something unsealed it is for one reason and that is to see if value will increase.

Having a decade old benny unsealed in your possession is a flipped benny.
I don't think that this is so by defination. I have another collection where having a sealed item is a nice addition to you collection.
Sure I can open it, but in that case it would have been cheaper to buy an opened item.
It's fun to have it as it was in the shops back in the '80. I don't buy it so it will increase in value. I buy or rather used to buy to up grade my collection with another gem.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

It's a great show, but paying $1,000 to hear it on vinyl is stupid. It's not about rubbing it in, it's about people are obsessed with it for no good reason. I love listening to vinyl, but it's not worth a $10-$20 over the price of an audio file of a CD. I find the packaging more interesting than the actual vinyl sound itself.

Why do you want to have it on wax so badly? Is it because you can't have it or you just really want that extra 5% in sound quality (if that). It's not worth $500-$1000 to have it on vinyl no matter the sound quality.

I bought them when it came out 10 years or so ago so I never bought one to flip, but I always had a bunch of PJ vinyl in HS from Ten - Yield that I bought and destroyed by playing them, looking at them etc. When this came out i figured I'd get one to keep safe and one to do that to.

Well, I don't want to pay that much ;)
I'd like to have it because I love the show and vinyl is my preferred music medium. I don't buy music in other formats. I love my record player and the sound it produces. So I am aiming at having the stuff that I love ready to be played on there. Just like tons of other people.

whilst everyone is so quick to define 'flipper'... can we all define 'collector' as well?

    Great question.

    Collectors gather things.

I feel that Pearl Jam music is not meant to be gathered but rather it be heard/shared in all possible ways.

What exactly is your deal? Why do you care so much about what other people do with their stuff? Demanding to see proof of opened Bennies? Come on. I buy pretty much any PJ vinyl I can get my hands on and have a very extensive collection but have never really played any of it other than the studio albums. I guess that's not ok in your book? But it looks so nice (to me)! My unopened Benny sits so nicely between my sealed colored PJ20 and my sealed ITW first pressing.

It's called collecting. Live and let live bro. You'll have a happier existence, I promise.

Don't freak out, there will always be someone willing to sell an album that they rarely play if ever for $1,000 bucks. you will be able to buy yours someday. With future vault reissues and such, this show will just be one of many. Eventually everyone sells stuff they don't use anymore when the value gets higher than their desire to keep it.

I couldn't justify even $500 on vinyl, it's just a mental price. I think I'd have jumped on the $350 it was selling for at the pop-up shop if I'd have been there and had a chance at it. But even that price is crazy. I'd love to own it (and it'd complete my PJ LP collection) and play it but it's no more than a pipedream unless a reissue ever happens.

i traded my sealed benny for a brand new BMW..

    who wants to touch me???

come on, you know you want to ...

  • (I posted the below in AET by mistake).

I can envision an episode on PAWN STARS where a person walks in and says "I have this" (hands over a sealed benny).

Guy behind counter asks "What are you looking to do with it"?

Person says "I'm looking to sell"?

Guy behind counter says "All right how much you want for it"?

Person says "I have no idea"

Guy behind counter says "I really don't know much about this item so let me get an expert to have a look at this and hopefully we can get to a number".

    Person says "All right"

    -commercial break-

Expert says to counter guy "What you have here is a real, sealed, intact what some people call a benny others call a record.
I would say that value of it is sentimental. The monetary value certainly has an opportunity. So I would put it in the unknown range."

Counter guy says to expert "Thanks man, have a good day"

Counter guy says to seller "What you have here sir is an unopened record that I no not weather it is playable or damaged. So I will give you a fair price. How bout 50 bucks?

Customer says "No I will find someone to pay me the $1000 value"

Customer and counter guy shake hands and part ways.

It's value (monetarily) comes more from being a collectable than a record. People like to collect things, when things people like to collect are rare they gain value.

Is an original Action Comics #1 worth a million? Not to me, but to someone out there it is. There's only so many copies of a comic from 1938, so if you want one you have to pony up.

People collect all sorts of things. Sometimes things are rare and in short supply. It drives up the price. If they were being sold used for 50 bux who would bother selling it (knowing that there's only 2000 and you wouldn't likely ever have a copy again).

It might cost 960 to buy one, but it also takes 960 to get someone to part with their copy. (or more judging by how many people are unwilling to flip their copies).

The perceived value for the first pressing of LB will be very interesting.
