Certifications cost money (because you have to apply for them and pay for the audit that certifies unit shipments). Sony no longer has an incentive to do that, and the band likely doesn't care enough to submit for certification on its own.igotid88 said:

In case anyone's interested, here are Soundscan's numbers as of July 2013 for sales of Pearl Jam's first three albums:igotid88 said:

22 PEARL JAM TEN 10,023,878 ( 35,871 ) 13x P
101 PEARL JAM VS. 6,011,278 ( 9,890 ) 7x P
184 PEARL JAM VITALOGY 4,769,805 ( 6,824 ) 5x P
The number on the left was the rank among all albums during the 1991-July 2013 "Soundscan Era." The numbers in the millions were total sales. The numbers in the thousands were 2013 year-to-date sales. The last item is the RIAA certification.I gather speed from you fucking with me.0 -
Great info. Thanks for posting!
Pretty crazy that Ten is #22 in that era considering all the giant pop acts that have come along in the last 20+ years."Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"0 -
Doesn't LB hold up pretty damn well in the charts? People were saying at the time that Backspacer was a pretty big success, but doesn't LB blow it out of the water with its chart position?"Mostly I think that people react sensitively because they know you’ve got a point"0

Chart wise. But sales, I think Backspacer is ahead.Spiritual_Chaos said:Doesn't LB hold up pretty damn well in the charts? People were saying at the time that Backspacer was a pretty big success, but doesn't LB blow it out of the water with its chart position?

is it possible to get the sales numbers in these updates? i understand it's not apples to apples with the changes in the industry, but i think it would still be interesting.www.myspace.com0

Pop acts tend to sell more singles, especially during the last ten years of rapidly declining album sales across the industry. It is a rare occurrence for someone to sell 10 million copies in the current environment. I believe Adele's "21" is the only album released in the last ten years to break 10 million in U.S. sales.T-Bone 82 said:Great info. Thanks for posting!
