    The first line is "everything has chains" and I think "stole my t-shirt" is "spilled my tinkture" but I could be wrong. Still beautiful. Sorry to be that guy.

    I referred to the lyrics on the band's official site and it says "everything has chains." So, yeah, I dunno.

    It's both and however Ed wants it to be that night. 10c site says it's "Everything has chains" but I have heard him say both live. Like I said it's whatever Mr Vedder wants it to be that night. One of my all time fav songs too. I still remember the 1st time I heard it. It was live in Fairfax VA on 4/8/1994 months before Vitalogy came out. I'll never forget it. The shows on YouTube if any one wants to check it out. It was on the night Kurt Cobain was found dead. EPIC SHOW!!!

    Is this thread meant as a joke? It's very clearly "chains" in the studio version.

    the dudes t shirt now has been stolen? Holy shit, you're dealing with lyrics written at least 19 year ago. Before you start a thread on the band's official page about lyrics from your dad's time, read them on the official site.

    Don't fault members for asking questions.

    We all listened to lyrics 19yrs ago by this band. We will never convey the message they portrayed to the new fans of Pearl Jam. None the less 10c is gaining new members and that is a great change from the old forum.

    What's wrong with the Habit lyrics? Aside from the obviously funny "individual who will live to see the year 2000" part I think they're spot on.

    It's a beautiful song absolutely.
    First heard it in 94 in December while I was in Milan when album came out... Means as much to me today as it did then. Just in different ways... And yeah, I got 3 kids now so I guess I'm a Dad too!!!

    Star is soooo much better than Sun and Everything has Changed is better than Chains.

    The studio version is chains. I can clearly hear a s at the end. That's how I interpret it at least. Live it's either or. I've heard both, or what's sounded like both. Ed also is notoriously known to change lyrics live. This could bring up the question of "What makes the correct lyrics? Is it what they recorded, or what he decides to sing at the time?" It's art, what you hear may not be what someone else hears. No need arguing or getting a bit upset if someone else interprets the lyrics differently.

    Thanks for telling me what I'm hearing. I believe using your logic I could easily say It's "chains" in the studio version. What you think is a "d" is the way Ed pronunciats the "n" in chains. See how that works? It's all subjective and for the sake of argument both are correct. There is no clear cut evidence of either word. I say chains, you say changed.

    I also looked up the lyrics in the "Official" lyric book to Even Flow and I don't see this lyric:

    Never gonna vote Republican.

    I must heard him sing this line 50 times by now. I think it's time for a new "Official" lyric book
