    I love most of the Ed solo songs and slow acoustic tunes...but this one doesnt float my boat.
    So, when they play it live, do they keep the cheesy piano intro/close, or not?

    I think it's perfectly fine. I really like Sleeping By Myself anyway, but Future Days is a nice little song. And as a slower tempo, album closing sort of live song it's much, much, much better than The End.
    All my favourite singers have stolen all of my best lines.

    THis about sums it up for me, i don't love the song still to this moment but getting rid casio keyboard intro and outro and having boom play the organ on the intro is much better.

    I don't mind the intro...but the outro is not really needed.

    Yeah, I think it's a beautiful song musically and lyrically. I love the piano intro and outro. Best lyric is:

    When hurricanes and typhoons rage
    When wind turns dirt to dust
    When floods they came and tides they raised
    Never closer became us

    I just think that's incredible imagery and can be related on a literal and figurative level. For me, I make a connection to Hurricane Sandy and a lot of my family and friends who either lost homes or had extensive damage. That's a pretty literal interpretation, but obviously a huge emotional impact. I can also connect it to my marriage and how going through the hard times makes you stronger.

    I think it's a fantastic song and I loved it from the first listen. As a bonus, if you restart the album after this, somehow Getaway sounds even better. I think it's the shift from emotional and contemplative to high energy, defiance, and fun.

    Ahh, thanks...lazy me. I read the first page only.
    I despise the intro so much, ive been thinking of editing it out and reburing the CD to see if I like the song better. But thats like Bob Ross painting over a Picasso kinda... :lol:

    The hate is due to the fact that song pretty well blows.

    It's ok if you're in the right mood. But live, it just seems to stunted and stripped. Stone is playing the only decent part.

    And on the album, bot the piano and the guitar sound like they were bought from wal-mart. The bridge could be nice, but the mix makes it just a big indiscernible wall of sound. Could be a better tune, but as it is played and as it was recorded, it just simply blows.

    Actually, another member on here pretty much hit the nail on the head. I think it's the intro, it's too adult contemporary. Remove the intro and you have a good song. IMO.

    The intro is the only part of the song I like. The rest is...blah.

    (Full disclosure: I like Phil - and this song - but he went awry when he dropped the drums entirely to become a chrooner).

    Remove that awful piano in the intro and outro, and you've got an OK song. Not a great song, but a less terrible song.

    Are you guys talking about Sirens or Future days. Get the adult contemporary vibe from that too, but I love Future days and not Sirens, very strange. I do like the stripped future days. Seattle was amazing. The lyrics and the way Ed sings them hit very close to home, which is probably why I like it so much.
