Just curious how many of you actually saw Nirvana live. I never did and it's one of my great regrets. But it seems like they didn't have any massive tours. Right?

Saw them with 7 Year Bitch in '91, after Nevermind was released but before it was omnipresent. Saw them again in '92, I think with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Disposable Heroes of Hip Hoprisy (Spearhead's Michael Franti's prior band to Spearhead). The '91 show was by far better. Amazing.

I had tickets to see them at the G-Mex in Manchester in April 1994 but as things turned out they never got to play that show. I think I've got the tickets somewhere still.

I was too young when they played in my home town in 1992, I was only 7 years old.
God how I wish I was there. :(
I missed seeing my favourite band, a band which means so much to me and whose music I am frequently turning to as a source of comfort and release in my battle with depression, anxiety, and loneliness.
I can not relate to any artist like I relate to Kurt. Reading his life story in books casts similarities to my life and my feelings.

to my knowledge, they never came anywhere close to Winnipeg. And the only time Layne Staley's AIC was opening for Van Hagar. No thanks.

The only grunge acts that came through here in the 90's were Pearl Jam (93) and Soundgarden (96).

I once met a guy online who, back in '91, won a radio contest so he got tix and backstage passes for a Nirvana show (I think in the Northwest but I don't remember where exactly). He met the band and got along so well with Kurt, he ended up spending THREE DAYS with them, just hanging out. At least one of those days was not a show day. When I have time I will dig through my emails to see if I saved his story, it was pretty amazing and seems so unusual.

I've met both Dave and Krist (separately) a couple of times, really cool guys. But never met Kurt. Closest I came was meeting Frances Bean when she was like 3. Oh my heavens does she have Kurt's EYES, including (at the time, less so now) a somewhat "wild animal caught in a trap" look, plus the blue intensity.

Saw them play Birmingham in late '93. Butthole Surfers and The Breeders opened. One of the few ticket stubs I didn't keep...not sure what happened to it :fp: Was seminal in making me realize you gotta try to catch the good ones if/when/while you can.

    Set list:

    Drain You
    Breed
    Serve the Servants
    Come as You Are
    Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Sliver

Wow, never thought to look up the set lists... These newfangled internet thingies didn't exist like this back when I was a young headbanger... LOL!

Looks like my Warfield set list was:

    LIVE NIRVANA TOUR HISTORY:
10/26/91 - Warfield Theater, San Francisco, CA, US

    Set:
Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam [traditional, cover]
    Aneurysm
    Drain You
    School
    Floyd The Barber
    Smells Like Teen Spirit
    About A Girl
    Polly
    Breed
    Sliver
    Lithium
    Love Buzz [Shocking Blue cover]
    On A Plain
    Negative Creep
    Blew
    Dive
    Rape Me
    Territorial Pissings

Seems kinda short, but in looking at the gig list, my God do I feel for them they did 5 and 6 shows back to back. Given how things blew up right around this time, no wonder they lost their minds!

My other show set list, wow, I actually forgot it was also 91, also forgot it was a new year's show... Set list was even shorter:

    LIVE NIRVANA TOUR HISTORY:
12/31/91 - Cow Palace, Daly City, CA, US

    Set:
    Drain You
    Aneurysm
    School

    Smells Like Teen Spirit
    About A Girl
    Sliver

Great show it was right before they did the mtv unplugged show, shame they're closing the venue I've seen a lot of great acts there over the years.

I came close... Still pisses me off to this day... I had some friends looking for me in college one day because they had an extra ticket to see them at some SUNY school in South Central NY State. They couldn't find me... all they had to do was turn on the campus radio station as I was on the air!!

Same here. I've still got my ticket for the Cardiff show on April 1st 1994, it was cancelled after his coma in Italy. Four days later he was gone for good. So close...

Springfield MA, November 1993 I got up against the rail right in front of the amps. . . . Novoselic was only a few feet away from me. It was phenomenal, I remember headbanging like a maniac when they played Scentless Apprentice. That & Radio Friendly Unit Shifter were my favorite tunes from In Utero, I was so psyched to hear them both. My ears were ringing for days. . . . that may be one huge reason why I'm starting to suffer hearing loss at only 36 years old. Half-Japanese and the Breeders opened that night.

The "From The Muddy Banks of the Wishka" version of Sliver was recorded at that show.

    1. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
    2. Drain You
    3. Breed
    4. Serve the Servants
    5. About a Girl

    7. Sliver

So it sounds like they did make the rounds a few times before Kurt ended the band. :(

From what live footage I've seen of them they seemed to have a stellar live show. Especially for those of us who appreciated them for more than their radio hits.

According to the logic of that tour, Jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam was played instead of Molly's Lips. The guy who was an attendee and gave the setlist to LN community in 2002 passed away and wasn't sure. Do you clearly remember if Molly's lips or Jesus doesn't want me for a sunbeam was played that night ? Both are Vaselines covers. Thanks
