this is a beautiful song that needs to be played. there aren't many songs in the catalog left. i'm sure it will get played one day. we just have to keep demanding it
You all can hate with the not gonna happen, no way, never but Im just gonna keep postin... Who ever thought Bugs would make it to the setlist was prolly told the same thing.

And Ed said many times that bugs would never be played. I hear you, and that's a good analogy.
But they (Ed?) clearly have a strong dislike for Dave A. It wasn't even included on Lost Dogs. That's insane.

Yeah but they just cleared out all those angel 45's in the mystery boxes I am soooo hoping they change their mind... Time heals all.
If young Ed met old Ed he would kick his ass just over the whole pairing with Target on Backspacer as well as some other things I am sure...
Angel is the song back in the day that sealed the deal with me on my love for Pearl Jam ...just want to see a great song get played no matter who co-wrote it!!

I hope they do..but it is not likely. This song also was a favorite back in the day from the first time I heard it on Pearl Jam Vs. the World bootleg CD.

As well as outta my mind. Dave A wrote the riff to go didn't he? They play the shit out of that!
Finally went ahead and googled Angel. I listened to a vinyl rip and watched a live performance with Ed and Dave A. I can see why maybe they don't play this. Also why it was left off Lost Dogs. They Lyrics IMHO are really forced and stilted, the cadence is screwy. I mean Ed did what he could, but come on, the only part of that song that remotely sounds like Pearl Jam (other than Eds voice) is the outro. I hope you get your wish man, not trying to rain on your parade, guess it might make Lost Cats!
I really like this song. always have. it's weird that Ed has an issue with it. A pearl jam song is a pearl jam song. indulge your fans with a little treat.

It was written by Dave who left 19 years ago. Hasn't been played since.[/quote]
Probably not but can keep hoping!!
I have to agree that the song will probably never be played again by the band, but it doesn't hurt to dream, so keep it up!
I feel very fortunate to say that I was at one of the four shows that they DID play Angel, way back when (Dallas, '93). I remember it being the last song played (in the 2nd or 3rd encore), just Ed & Dave (with guitar) came out on stage. They sat/leaned in front of the drums, on the riser, if memory serves, Ed said a few words about being in Dave's hometown and that Dave wrote the next song they were going to play. They played the song, then exchanged a brief hug before exiting the stage. One of the few vivid memories I have of that show. Hard to believe that was 21 year ago - damn I feel old....
sparing you the long version, my cliffs notes reasoning for thinking angel will get played: fatherhood made ed soft. whether it's leash or bugs or let me sleep, nothing can be ruled out anymore. he's more compromising and more generous with the obscurities than he ever was before. with the mystery box bringing that song back into focus, and the cupboard of cool shit to dust off almost bare, if we "pleeeease, dad" him enough, he's bound to give in. it's gonna happen. (hopefully in cincinnati, pre-set, off the bootleg).
I doubt the band has anything to do with, nor cares about the contents of, the mystery boxes. Thats just a 10c initiative to clear out the warehouse of 90% crap in the hopes of getting some type of gem and generating fan interest in emptying their wallets.
If Mike actually pointed at Ed and shook his head "no" when a fan requested it, to me that means something bigger is at play here. Maybe Ed really wants to erase Dave as much as he can. Who knows. We will never know. They glossed over it in the movie like it was a joke, so it is likely never to be divulged.

Either way the doubters bump this to the top so its all good....
So when Pearl Jam gets inducted into the Hall of Fame will they pretend there were no other Drummers before Matt Cameron??? I think not, each drummer has contributed to the success of Pearl Jam in there own way, the only difference is Matt owns it now.
This is not a debate on which one was/is the best drummer, it is just history and time heals all. I've said it before and I will say it again Ed is not the same man he was in the 90's. Young Ed would kick old Ed's ass in a second for what he has become, but its okay cuz it's evolution baby!!!!
well they ignored any history of the band at the PJ20 festival. when they induct PJ into the HOF, I think the committee will induct Matt. He's already been with the band the longest. The committee left Chad Channing from the Nirvana induction, and he arguably had more of an influence on that band than Dave did. He drummed on Bleach, AND came up with all the drum parts that Dave played on Nevermind. All Dave did was In Utero. I happen to think his post-Nirvana success had everything to do with him being the only drummer inducted. Drummers aren't generally thought of as terribly influential on a band's sound compared to the rest of the group, so I highly doubt that Matt Chamberlin, Dave Krusen, Dave A, or Jack Irons will be involved at all. Matt Cameron actually writes songs for PJ. Dave A wrote, what, like 1, 2? Not a shot against him, just saying what is on paper.
