Sooo, Arod getting off would be best case scenario at this point, huh?

Before not having him would free up salary for other people. Now I feel like they need his bat, whatever that is.

Always was. The more I look at this, though is they knew the Cano think was happening and that resulted in the Ellsbury signing. It's not an exact trade off obviously, but I'm guessing while they wouldn't have minded Cano coming back at that point, they signed the Ellsbury contract assuming he wasn't.

As for A-Rod - Always helps to have another bat.

Yeah, I'd think they had a pretty good idea this was going to happen.

This is what it takes to bring you out of the woodwork?

Not thrilled, to say the least. Screw the Mariners.
  • Yeah, I've been outta the game for a while. Complete coincidence Cliffy, I swear.

Great article. And if Cano is of any value he will not be a Marnier past year 4 because of all the reasons he stated about the current state of the team.

Forget the avg. salary. Totally meaningless. It's about the total contract. $200 million and 10 years have never worked in a single contract. Yankess smart not to go there.

How does Felix Hernandez fell about his hometown discount now?

A-Rod's first 10 year $250 million contract worked

Not really he opted out after 7 only one that you could say actually worked was DJ 10/189

In terms of production, yes. And the opt out could have benefited them of they didn't re-sign

But, would even the first 7 years have worked out if he didn't use steroids?

I think in this post-roids era 10 year deals are a utter and complete disaster unless you are on the brink of winning a championship in the next 2 years.

Assuming he used all those years other than the 3. Even without them i believe he would have put up similar numbers. Well close to them.

Beltran 3/$45M>Not much of a surprise. You knew the Yanks would sign him, Choo or Cruz. But, would they sign one of the others too?

How about a pitcher? or 2?

So, Ellsbury, McCann, Beltran and Kuroda for $299 million or Cano for $240 mill and 3+ more years commitmment?

Props to Cashman. Lessons learned. Job well done. Will miss Cano, but Yankees are clearly better off in any way you look at this.

Not just that, but he spent 3 years In last place in Texas and they paid the Yankees 10 mill a year to take hi. Off their hands. So no way can you say that contract was a success..agree that jeter is the only 10 year deal that has ever worked. Giving a guy over 30 a ten year deal is dumb
