i thought the toddler at the ev show in detroit was too much. this is just crazy. it's abuse.

i wonder what the band's reaction was, if they saw the baby.
did you see me? i saw you.

to me, this is a growing problem, and one that EV feeds into and needs to stop.

I am on the wings every show, and I always have a good view of the "Pit" or the front seated area pre 2013.

I have noticed that the dragging of infants/toddlers/preschoolers to shows has been on the increase, and very often there is an obvious and intentional effort to hoist the kid up at certain points so EV notices him, and provides acknowledgement and/or memorabilia.
It is actually rare now, since 2010, that I go to a show and do NOT notice this.

What's really gonna get people fired up about this kind of shit, is in Washington state where people will be smoking pot at the shows legally. Gonna be some hungry happy babies at the Seattle show!!

  • Now 14 year olds aren't quite little kids anymore, are they?

14 yeas old??? That was my age at Randall's Island night 2 in 1996. I was 3 people behind the rail the ENTIRE show, and it was as insane as you'd imagine! 50+ shows later, I respect it when the "little kids" make their way up front. They don't make em like they used to!

    WTF.

haha, don't take that the wrong way - i mean it as doing what I did - waiting outside all day to get the "spot" you want. That's how its done - I did my fair share, when I had the time!

Part of this is the original fan base getting older and having children. There are many more of us with children today than there was ten years ago. Certainly twenty. I'm not one of them but it often feels like I am the exception and not the rule.

I do agree that this is a growing problem and that Eddie does feed into it a bit. Hard not to though when you see a smiling kid.

So what's that age that makes kids in reserved ok?

OK, reserved is different than GA, obviously. But I still use the shows as a sacred event for me and other adults, and something I wouldn't expose a child to. If I want to enjoy the show by getting lost in the music and by sharing a joint and drinking, I'm going to, and I'm not going to worry about having to watch my kid, because she's home with the sitter where she is supposed to be.

I respect the answer, thank you. (And I'm not suggesting getting my respect is important, just that I do).

Agree with both. Hopefully this infant incident is the jump the shark moment because it's ludicrous.

I was in the lawn this summer for a DMB show, way out in the sticks... but I saw an infant with ear protection... the drug use and boozing was off the charts here. There were also torrential downpours throughout the show.

I have an 8 month old. I couldnt even imagine
  • dumb fuckin people are everywhere. most will have numbers on their hands in GA ! :)

All the more evidence that you should have to pass a exam to have children. You need to pass two in order to drive a car, but to care for another human life, ahhhh we'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

  • Don't want to offend with this word but its what I thought so I'm just going to say it. I went to the pittsburgh show in October. I have a cool 3 year old son who can name all the members of PJ and headbangs to even flow. When my friend bailed last minute I had a fleeting thought to bring him with me into GA and I figured if it wasn't safe or appropriate or if he got tired of it we could just leave. Then I thought, "that's retarded" ( there's the word). I wanted to enjoy the show free of parental restraints and my common sense told me there is no way GA would be safe for a three year old. So.... An infant? RETARDED! As a mandatory reporter of child abuse due to my profession I would have had half a mind to call that shit in. :nono:

Yeah, this is similar to my thinking as well.

As Chuckhaint mentioned - common fucking sense.

(although! - Gotta say while I know nothing about how CPS works, I'm not sure if this qualifies as actual child abuse [considering the other horrors children are put through, this strikes me as a stupid but benevolent action on the part of the parent]. Then again, what do I know?)
  • Hedonist. You're right. It wouldn't fly as abuse or neglect. I really was just trying to make a point. Sucks about CPS because most of the shit that you, I and most normal people would see as some form of abuse has to be totally overlooked by them and they have to hold out for the really really bad stuff. Either way that's not what his threads about. In reality I wouldn't have involved myself in that situation had I witnessed it but I think you all know how I feel. That poor baby has a long hard life ahead of it most likely! (Or maybe a really short one)

I've been saying that for years and I'm still waiting. This world needs a good plague and I would gladly line up first.
