One of my friends got to go to a show over the summer (my parents forced me to go to my college graduation instead- I'm still angry about it), and he said that he was disappointed too. I feel like they're really hit or miss live, but I'd like to see them anyway. Not without Matt though, because he always seems to be the highlight even if the rest of the show isn't great.2013: Wrigley Field, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn 1, Brooklyn 2, Philly 1, Philly 2, Baltimore

I am not really sure if Audioslave ended on good terms, but I wonder if Ed's old drummer Brad Wilk would make sense.words seem so out of place.

Saw SG in January for the 1st time, it was a great show, and seeing the four of them together meant a lot (& yes, Matt was the highlight of the show). I would be disappointed if I were going to see them & MC was not drumming for them. I'm sure his replacement will do an adequate job, but let's face it, he's an integral part of the band, that fact would always be looming over the show for me.
(I saw A Perfect Circle for the 5th time in 2011, and it was without Josh Freese; as one of my favorite members of the band, that was a big disappointment. . . . his replacement was great, but he wasn't Josh Freese)
Regarding the guy who referred to PJ as a middle of the road band:
I've seen PJ 12 times, and will go to great lengths to see them again and again. I saw Soundgarden for the 1st time this year, and am not concerned if I never see them again. It was great to scratch the itch / add them to my list, but as far as live experiences go, they can't hold a candle to a PJ show.
Soundgarden is one of my all time favorites, and I do think they write more interesting songs than PJ (Not trying to troll here, just expressing my opinion) but I think PJ is a better overall band / experience.
(plus they've been consistent for 22+ years, SG could break up tomorrow - WTF wouldn't he choose PJ?)
Just my $0.02
(SG should hit up Tim Alexander from Primus, I would think he could fill in nicely)0 -

It is frustrating when in this level of business with huge assets and this amount of profit, managerial problems,in this case proper tour planning somehow jeopardize the brandname which is literally the fundamental of the business. Especially with Soundgarden it's widely known, that organizational issues alongside with the band's dynamics led to their disbandment. As far as PJ, it is evident since the 180 degree turn in their commercial strategy in 2006, they are not willing to sacrifice a dollar nor a minute of a robotically programmed plan. Τhe result was this announcement from Matt Cameron's press office to us, Soundgarden "fans", that led to some kind of sentimentalism about which band he "prefers"or who of us will ''get the most'' of him. In my opinion this debate is useless. Because in that level of professionalism choices usually are made in a less sentimental (or even artistic) scale of criteria.
Just for fun though... Matt Cameron belongs with Soundgarden, also Pearl Jam should have been a four piece (without McCready and with Jack Irons)0 -

I think this has the most to do with the fact that the other SG members are really into SG again now and don't want to just sit at home anymore while Matt is off with PJ. Plus, SG are huge Ozzy fans, supposedly years ago Cornell wrote a bunch of songs and gave them to Ozzy but he didn't take them and they wound up being SG songs. So you can't say "no" to that offer. And Matt probably has a contractual obligation to tour with PJ (for now) anyways.
But at the same time, there is likely a bigger picture question going on here - I mean, SG sat on their hands patiently off and on for the last couple of years while Matt did his thing with PJ. Matt supposedly was a driving force behind SG playing again; but SG got to touring, and they like it, and they want to keep doing it, and it begs the arrival of the inevitable crossroads where now they're into it and the time demands are significant for a band that wants to keep playing and Matt has to pick between the two.
Its not fair to Kim and Ben, and SG fans, who have been increasingly loving life lately to sit around holding their nuts through 2014 while Matt is doting around the globe with PJ. I think that as much as the SG faithfull think SG can't go on without Matt C; they will probably find that actually they can, and will probably need to. SG will probably want to play more in 2014, supposedly they've already turned down tons of shows over the last few years because of Matt's PJ obligations; so with a new filling-in drummer, and invites for dates, and positive momentum; unless PJ decides to take another 4 year hiatus , we're probably going to have this same question again at the end of 2014. Maybe that's when Matt's contract renews with PJ, who knows.
At this point, if I had to guess, I would think that Matt is probably plenty content with PJ. He and PJ probably have more in common now than he and the SG guys do. Kim and Ben sat on the sidelines for like 15 years; Ben in particular had a very rough going while SG was not active. But Matt on the other hand has been romping around with PJ, cushily touring the globe in a well-heeled armada of designer transportation vehicles and five-star accommodations, being paid handsomely, playing long shows, yes, but in a dumbed-down/punching-the-clock style of play. Not the deep soul-searching of an intangible spirit emitting their pulsating artistry through their phyiscal-trasmission-vessel; but rather a corporate office park cubicle hobbit brainlessly blobbing out the same effortless 8-hour workday, 5 hours of which consist of eating, dilly-dallying, wandering, and defecating; content in their job security, unmotivated to challenge themselves, and unaccountable for producing drivel, being revered as a musical god even though the percussion line for every live PJ song has now been molded into the same overly uptempo generic 4/4 metronome sound and deemed not only acceptable but visionary because most PJ fans are musically ignorant. But its not the employee's fault, its the corporation. That's what they produce. That's what their customers demand. But why would anyone want to give that up? Even Kent Brockman kept his job as Springfield's news anchor after winning the lottery. He's a journalist , people.
But I hope Matt proves me wrong and picks SG. I mean, LB had zero Matt C songs on it. Maybe PJ can try to find a new drummer that will breathe some new creative life into their epic 3-non-consecutive weeks out of the last 4 year studio sessions.
Or maybe not.
But either way, good for SG to keep going. The world needs a band out there with some balls in the studio.

I understand you're gutted by Matt's decision; but your condescending and insulting words to fans and the band are uncalled for.0 -
i love both bands...mike mccready & chris cornell being my personal favs from each...and as fan of both...i look at it like this... well either way matt is gonna tour to support each bands albums. eddie and chris can do their solo tours. heck ben just did a solo album and so did stone...so it a timing thing...drummer, timing go figure...anyway as a pearl jam fan he has to tour for lightning bolt, that's the right way to go. but as a soundgarden fan, i think were more fearful, and rightfully so. he's a bigger part of that band, more of a driving force. i dont think itd be the same without em. he's not just a typical drummer with soundgarden...people are right when they bring up his creativity and and passion when playing with that band. dont get me wrong hes good with pearl jam too, but with soundgarden i feel its another level for his playing. i hope he can balance all this with two bands. good luck to em and im just hoping for more soundgarden albums and tours with him in the band. other than that, waiting for those midwest lightning bolt tour dates, been jealous of what ive been seeing. and glad we have these messageboards cuz people at work and facebook and just in the general area, not enough grunge fans...sad when kids dont know who kurt cobain is...unreal. ok im rambling...time to sleep.{Alpine Valley '03/United Center '06/Summerfest '06 (Both Nights!!)/Alpine Valley '11 (PJ20) (Both Nights!!)/Wrigley Field '13}

If I had to choose I'd see PJ without Matt over SG without Matt any day. He's easily replaceable in Pearl Jam, but not in Soundgarden. Just how I feel. Call me crazy but I think it would be kind of awesome if Pearl Jam toured with a new drummer for a bit, or had two or three dudes hop on tour at different times. Give Jack a leg. I don't know, I think it would be fun. Frankly, the Pearl Jam songs with more interesting drumming are the ones I like Matt least on anyway. But JCP? Matt Cameron all the fucking way.0

Haha, that would definitely be interesting.
Also, I think Matt's an awesome dude and great in PJ so it's not a knock against him but I just don't think he's as integral to Pearl Jam's sound as he is to Soundgarden's.
That said, my pick for his replacement in Soundgarden would be BRANN DAILOR from Mastodon (one of the best bands on the planet). He's been my favorite drummer for years now and would fucking wipe the floor with anything they threw at him.0 -
