The reason I bought it is because singles are made so that you just listen to one song, because you just want to listen to single songs and not the whole album in order. It's not rocket science. I am completely confused as to why the whole point of singles is escaping so many people. And it becomes comedy once people assume the way this thing would be listened to is playing every song in order using the singles, but somehow that is where a lot of people's minds went. The fact that singles sound marginally better is just a bonus.

I think part of it is that it is easy to listen to just one song on a full vinyl LP and thus it is more convenient to have one full record. I wouldn't think it would be more convenient to have a record on six singles as far as storage goes.

Bingo. I'm not confused, PJ_Soul! (you little snob, you :P ) I just don't see the point (besides the marginal fidelity issue that honestly very few people have the equipment for). Plus, PJ albums are unfortunately usually mastered like crap anyway. Would you buy 12 cd's of an album you already own to listen to just one song at a time??

I think the "scientific reason" given by the OP (news to very few as it's been brought up many times in the main thread on this topic, by the way) is a better argument for vinyl fidelity in general than a convincing one to drop another $60-$80 on a record I already own. I can see the damn tracks, thank you very much. I mean, yeah it's a neat collectible I guess but other than that...eh. My point is that it's not that people don't "understand", it's that many see little value in it other than a collectible. But whatever, I'm happy you're happy! :)
I didn't think you were confused in particular - i know better than that, haha, but a lot of others seem to be, and you did say people were nuts to buy the thing, so i'm just saying why i'm not nuts. ;) But I don't get the CD part. CDs have automatic song selection, and you don't drop a needle onto them or flip them... of course no one would buy 12 CD singles, because that would make no sense.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but I listen to vinyl (and try to buy these releases) because it makes listening to music an "activity". I like changing records, running a brush over the vinyl, carefully dropping the needle, and reviewing the art and liner notes while I listen. Its like reading a book or watching a movie, a great excuse to give the music the time and attention it deserves.

Listening to Lightning Bolt in this format will be time that I consider well spent.

    It's a bold move!
I don't blame him for trying... if anyone is dumb enough to pay that, then good for the seller. It's the buyer who would be making it a rip off. If these things start selling for $1000 i'm going to flip it myself! ... They won't though. Once everyone stops losing their shit over it, they will probably go for maybe $300 at most.
