Red Wine

Does anyone know what kind of wine Eddie drinks at the show? A random question I know, but being an avid chianti drinker I am curious to know what Ed swigs during the liver performances.

Looking forward to Summerfest!

Peace!

I remember seeing the rider that Pearl Jam has with the venues and it says something about the wine must be a decent red wine over a certain cost (I think it was like $25 or $30). I think I remember it mentioning Cabernet, but it said it could also be another varietal. So it was open-ended, but I know it definitely did not mention chianti specifically.

This is an excerpt from the rolling stone interview that discusses this very topic...

What kind of wine do you like onstage? As long as it's red?

As long as it's red and there's a spare in the back. There's this homemade stuff some friends have been making for me for the past few years, and I can't do without it now.

    What kind of grapes?

I can't tell you; there's a bit of variation there. On the first leg of our last tour, I had been drinking regular wine, but I got the good stuff for our last show, and I don't know what kind of grapes they are but it's twice as potent. I realized this about halfway through the show. It was a political fundraiser, so I was like, "Damn I really gotta sober up!"

I do wonder if Ed enjoys human liver with a nice Chianti though? Hhhhmmmmmmm?

I read somewhere a year or two ago that he usually drinks Barolo (sp?), an Italian red...

It was in the recent Spin...I think...that Ed said it was friend's vinyard and 'you won't find it on the shelf'. I can recommend a few good ones, if you're looking, though ;)

Yeah, but that may have been his favorite wine or something -- he doesn't always drink the same varietal, winery, etc. The rider is right on point if someone can find it. It has some other interesting stuff in it.

Thanks. That's it. A "fine Italian wine" such as barolo, etc., or a Cabernet Savignon or merlot in the 15 to 20 dollar price range.

And this was probably a few years ago. The price range may have gone up since then.
