I cringe any time I hear auto tune. I hear some layered and occasionally processed vocals on LB, but no auto-tune. I've used it myself while recording but only because it's quicker to tweak a note than do another take. IMO they likely used it some, but it's not over done.KORITFW0

If you are angry about reverb used on a singer's voice, why aren't you angry about reverb used on a guitar?Noblesville 6/22/2003 St. Louis 5/4/2010 East Troy 9/4/2011

The real question is why are you so intent on painting Ed in a negative light? Or are you just trying to get a rise out of certain fans/members? I dont get it. Its one thing to have a different opinion and discussion of something you dont like about the vocals but you just seem to want to bring nothing but negativity to the table.0 -

i think this is the common misunderstanding on this thread. A lot of people here seem to see the word "auto tune" and expect that cher / tpain effect. For those who legitimately dont know whats being referred to look up michael buble or tim mcgraw videos on youtube for extreme examples. Whats being discussed here is the sterile / somewhat robotic melodyne or autotune (two competing software pitch correction software plugins) effect that is pretty apparent on SOME (i dont hear it on all) of the tracks on lightning bolt.2005-9-12 London, ON

Yes, I don't mind experimentation but for me the albums production is so far removed from how Pearl Jam had captured me and others with what was a truer sound less polished.
The very thing I expect to find to find when I attend a PJ show is missing from this LB album.....
1) Spontenaety..................this album could have been call Backspacer Part Deux
2) Power, Energy, Strength....much of this album lyrically sounds scared, weak, frail
3) Self mockery.................part of the appeal has always been the self deprecation of Ed
4) Drunkeness...................maybe Eddie was completly sober at the sessions for this album?
5) Crowd Interaction...........could be the producer to blame for this. We bring the best out of the band!11.18.1997 - OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA

In regards to number two, I call BS. Ed's lyrics have always contained a lot of introspection and frailness, nothing new there.10/31/93 Berkeley (Baba!) • 10/1/94 Bridge School • 9/16/96 Seattle (In My Tree!) • 10/19/96 & 10/20/96 B. When has PJ really ever had an unpolished sound? Vitalogy and Riot Act are a little raw in places, but the majority of their work has an obvious production sheen to it.
I'm surprised how many people are actually defending Es using pitch correction. Is it the worst thing in the world? Definitely not, but that's a different response than I would've anticipated. I'm sure more bands than ever are using auto tune for fixes, but I don't buy it's on every album we hear.0 -
When I first heard the part the OP is referring to in Pendulum, I too wondered if it was autotune. After listening to the CD at home on my Harmon Kardon receiver and Definitive Technology speakers, it clearly is the layering of another voice track and then added reverb.0
