If you want to split hairs very vocal recorded with mics and a board is technically "unnatural" considering compression and EQ is used to enhance the vocals.
Using effects doesn't necessarily equate to a bad thing - it is an artistic decision. And in the case of the Pendulum part you pointed out I think that artistic decision works rather well because that vocal part enhances the "haunting" vibe of the tune
Personally speaking I don't hear anything wrong with the vocals, every effect added was one made by the band to enhance the music - not to mask anything and whatnot.
THIS.
Sounds primarily like some reverb and some slight delay on there - DEFINITELY NOT AUTO TUNE.

Seen the boys ten times and EV once. Don't notice the vocal gimmicks as much live. Pearl Jam has nothing to prove to me or anyone for that matter and this album is no worse than every albums after Yield, meaning there is maybe 2-3 decent songs (Pendulum,Future Days, and Sirens maybe Infallible).

Dimi is not from the US, he truly has not heard the term.
Dimi-auto tune is a computer used to make a singer who cannot sing the correct key properly sound like they can sing. Look for a Paris Hilton song, she uses AutoTune, most pop singers use it.
Think of it as'fake talent'
The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

I don't think you need to be from LA to know that every pop star from Fresno, CA to Albany, Australia uses auto-tune...oh and now our beloved "rockstar" Eddie Vedder.
I guess the original poster hasn't spent much or anytime in a recording studio then?
In Pendulum what you're hearing is an echo effect that has a bit of distortion added to it. It sounds awesome for it.
Also, if you think this kind of thing is new for PJ then you simply haven't been paying attention. Vocal effects have been there since day one. I mean Ten is full of reverb on the vocal and lets not forget the treatment on the vocal at the start of Black.
Another example of this is Do The Evolution...do you really think that's a clean vocal sound?? His voice is clearly going through a distortion processor.
Studio trickery is perfectly acceptable, live the songs always take on life of their own anyways, so it's no big deal.
P.S. the most processed Eddie has ever sounded was on The Fixer. On LB there's more of a dry vocal sound and there's definitely the return of his low end and growl. I really pleased with it.

The first time I heard your Auto tune in Pendulum.. I was like... Whoa, that was different...
I honestly thought Ed melted into Mike's guitar for a second... oh whatever! lol
On the other hand... there is a damning photo out there... Eddie hangin' out with One Direction and junk... hmmmmm maybe it is Auto tune... oh no... Ed Say it ain't so!

I just learned that those colored boxes at Mike's feet are something called "effects pedals".
Apparently, they change the natural sound of his guitars.

Do we really think that anyone's voice after 20 plus years of touring, making records, smoking, drinking is going to sound the same. I don't think so. Albums are engineered and produced. So what. I would rather focus on content and lyrics and be happy that my favorite band is still growing and putting out albums 20+ years later. We are the lucky ones. I know I have changed in 20 years. Thank you PJ
I think it's too harsh to just lump Eddie here in with Britney spears and accuse him of simply using auto-tune. It's just effects used in recording like you would for any other instrument to get it to sound the way the band wants or likes. I don't really dig it that much either when it's overused but I don't suddenly think any artist who uses it is a hack. Some people think Mike uses too much wah but to some, like me, you can never use too much wah.
I also think this is more a Brendan O'Brien thing than an Eddie thing. I found the last couple of Springsteen albums O'Brien produced had way too many effects on Bruce's vocals but his last record "Wrecking Ball" either used less or used ones that were less obvious and I think they sounded better. I noticed this on Backspacer too. Eddie sounds better with Adam Kaspar producing but the rest of the band sound really awesome with O'Brien producing. so, you know...
Anyway, this is a great record so whatever Eddie likes doing is fine with me.

I think the copy/paste during MYM is more troubling than this supposed auto tune.
I know there was some speculation of auto tune fort he Sirens video. I think it's kinda weird to auto tune or do overdubs for a "live" video.
