    I've actually listened to it quite and I think it's alright, but Alive is one of the greatest anthems in rock history. I think it's pretty presumptuous to say that a songmthat's a day old, and isn't really that anthemic, is gonna top it.

    sirens is a great song and will continue to grow on me as I listen to it more and see it live in a few weeks. For sirens to be on the level of alive is has to endure a few tours and mature to an amazing live experience.     I think it's a nice song...but quite frankly the extreme love of the song surprises me more than the extreme hate for the song.

    I just read someone praise this song as a "game changer" - i couldn't think of a better way to describe this song, only not in a good way. The game was definitely changed for me when i heard Sirens, only i will chalk this up as a bad play, rather than losing complete hope in my team.

    I'm kidding. I see what you're saying.

    My point was I can see this being a huge big important anthem for a whole new generation of younger folks probably hearing this on the radio, while their dad, an established Pj fan, is hating it,
    And they're loving it cos he hates it haha

    It's gotta be happening somewhere :)

    I don't see it doing well in the mainstream radio business. I think it may turn a few heads like "Pearl Jam? when did they write a pop ballad for Top 40 radio?", but it's not going to be any game changer like November Rain or anything for GNR.

    it will be #5 for a few weeks then fall off and everyone will forget about it.

    I just always turn to Pearl Jam as a mood lifter and this song although beautiful is a little depressing .It's also in my opinion tries too hard to be big and epic . Just cant see it becoming a PJ anthem in the same way Alive is ..

    also, if even the band thought it would do what the OP thinks it might do, they really dropped the ball on that video. that video was only made as a reason to get on youtube without someone home-making some crappy video to the song first.

    Try look at it from a completely objective view.

    This is probably going to be huge on radio. Pretty sure we are hearing a radio edit version here.
    The only thing going against the song is its length on the full version.

    Other than that ...it's there to win hearts and minds of the public

    It's all a matter of opinions no ? and it's music it's not gonna make or change my life in anyway shape or form that allready happened with the 1st time hearing Release , as for these new songs i like all new material it's refreshing to hear it and i trust this band hell i've been with them for 20 solid yrs i'm happy with where they are as a band ....

    Alive is one of the most recognisable anthems of the 90s, period.

    Sirens won't be recognised by most people outside of PJ fandom.

    I will say this - Sirens totally moves me. I love it.

    With that said, Alive has such a simple chorus - "oh, I'm still alive," and that phrase carries so much depth and anthemic strength on its own, it's really hard to rival as a fist-in-the-air anthem. It's just built that way, from the riff to the lyric, and it's built really fucking well.
