I think the band mostly just feels like their fans are awesome. They aren't about to care what maybe 15 cranky people on the boards have to say.

Is that why Ament went out of his way to avoid talking to fans after a good half of all the RNDM shows?

Yeah, he REALLY loves the fans...
  • I think the band would laugh at the complaints - and occasionally see a point to one. For the most part i highly doubt it would change their ideas in regards to what they want to do as a band. They clearly know what they are doing and are going to continue to do it their way.
After all they are PEARL JAM.

to answer the OP's question - YES we are greedy.
We are all addicted to this Pearl Jam shit man!
have you EVER heard a crackhead say "nah, i have had enough crack this year."
    FUCK NO!
Some of us are just a little better at keeping the monster at bay 8-)

Some of us are addicts, most of us are healthy. Consider the addicts the greedy ones. There's nothing healthy about an addict.

I think he acted like that because he's gotten soft and can't handle the kind of low budget tour with tiny bar venues in many cases, with only half the tickets being sold, like that tour was. It was like he was starting his music career all over again, but he wasn't 24 anymore and it wasn't fun. He was just tired and cranky all the time.

really? because i picture you combing through these posts looking for something to disagree with the same way a meth addict combs their carpet for the fallen rock.

Do you live in his brain?

Until he speaks for himself, all I know is that he refused to come out at the show I was at. And I understood why. Some people were pushing Joe and Richard to go get him because they wanted autographs and photos. Pushy, pushy, pushy!

That's why I said "I think". But also, I read Joseph Arthur's blog during the tour, and some of what he said seems to support my theory, as well as some comments Jeff himself made on their many radio appearances during the tour. So.... yeah. I didn't just pull that out of my ass.

A lot of the people who post on this board (myself included) can sometimes be greedy. But there are plenty of fans who are content with whatever shows/album/merch they get. With the amount of money I spend on this band... I'm allowed to be greedy 8-).

Good post WhyGo91. Even though I am not sure if you are making a joke or not SVRDhand13, you do come to the core of the problem. It is this mindset that sometimes get overblown in the forums. It is not necessarily greed as "entitlement". We *deserve* this, we *deserve* that, because I wrote 7000 posts on TenC and 20 000 on TSIS, because I bought 100 T-shirts, because I bought all the albums etc. etc. etc.

Lets put it in perspective: you write the posts because you got nothing better to do, you bought the T-shirts more or less likely because you want to remember a certain gig, tour or trip you made. You bought the albums, well, because you are a fan. And yes, you may have your favourite one out there - and no album will hold up against it - still you will buy the albums. That is their core business! That is what we fell in love with.

So in the end the band owes you nothing; you invested in yourself.

Sometimes I feel like this band can do no good, that everything is an opening to whine and complain. (Some people are already complaining about the title "Yellow moon"! They haven't even heard the song yet nor the lyrics/ context etc.) They are not near your hometown - complain. Lottery - complain. Marketing - complain. Seeing 1/4th of the artwork before it is completly uploaded - complain. Seeing song titles - complain. Fanboard - complain. Seeing the lyrics - complain. Ed doesn't hold a certain key long enough during a 2.5 hour concert - complain. They didn't play your song during a concert - complain. Dont like the new direction the band is taking (and you interpret that as "the band doesn't grow") - complain.

There is one thing I will do when this album comes out. Put on my earphones and hide from all forums for awhile... For there will be an avalance of complaints. (That song could be better, that baseline could be better, the lyrics could be better, that song sucks, the album doesn't hold up to... -take your pick. Complaints. Complaints. Complaints.) As Fifi stated; it is ok to be disgrunted, but be mature about it and put it in your own subjective perspective. Instead of: "this baseline sucks", try: "what do you think of the baseline?" instead of an endless string of whining...

And I know, I know - for that is the next argument - that I am "complaining" myself. Even still, WhyGo91 brings up a good point. An introspective point.

I'm not greedy. I have tickets to 3 shows this year.
It is completely crazy for me. I felt greedy.
My Mom is an old hippie, and she said she has seen
Rolling Stones 10 times and Kiss 7 times. (she dislikes concerts?)

To ease my conscious, my younger brother pointed out the fact that Pearl Jam is my favorite band..

They all say I need to just go to these shows and enjoy life.

I just feel like some people take for granted the already amazing things that they have. Not many bands would go above and beyond for their fans like Pearl Jam does. I mean a HUGE example is what happened a Wrigley. Most bands after a 2 and 1/2 rain delay wouldn't bother coming out at midnight and then playing a whole set until 2 a.m. in the morning. And by most bands I mean about 95% of any band out there would not do that, I could almost promise you that. The thing is, I think that a lot of fans in the Ten Club ARE being greedy.

Just like backseatlover12 had made the point earlier, are people REALLY asking for more shows in a city that already has a show scheduled? I mean, I would get it if you didn't get tickets to the first one, but if you're complaining just because you want to see them again for another night....you need remove yourself from the tit you selfish brat....

No offense, but I think when I see the picture of Cub high heels might have been pricey enough to possibly feed a small third world country.

I'd agree, greedy AND selfish. We had years of whining about the F5 ticket system, instead of just accepting the system the band had in place. Because "hitting F5 was too much effort" for some to see their favorite band from good seats. So we put up with years of complaining about how we need a more "fair" system. So when 10C implements a (hopefully temporary experiment) lottery for tickets, the same selfish and greedy folks don't even want to consider a similar system for things like limited merchandise and venue entry. Why... because they only want what works best for them. If they really wanted to be more "fair", they would support a consistent implementation of the lottery.

    Exactly.
Its a reasonably large "community" and there are going to be all types in the community, some will act greedy or selfish at times, some will complain because thats just what they do best, but most are pretty cool.
    This weekend we rock Portland
