Are we becoming too greedy?
Are some Ten Club members becoming a bit too greedy?
I use the pronoun "we" to describe a certain select number of individuals in the fan club, it's not universal. But I've noticed that there are some club members in the forums that talk about how they are treated unfairly as a member based off of what they deem they should get. For example, earlier today there was an individual who insulted the band over and over again just because they wouldn't release more information faster about the "Future Days" tease that's been going on for the past few hours. I've also noticed that there are Ten Club members who are not satisfied with the ticketing policy, the merchandise, the way this website is run, and various other things.
I feel that these people are asking a little too much for what they already have. As a Ten Club member I will admit that I've had frustrations about the club, but I've always felt that this is the fairest and most loyal fan club that's out there.
1) you get QUALITY merchandise as fair prices
2) I've seen band websites that run much less efficient than this (just go check out Chevelle's)
3) the way that ticketing is run most likely isn't run by the band itself, so don't blame it on them. It's just the way it is so deal with it.
4) Most band memberships don't offer perks like discounts, forums, and exclusive items. These are basically privileges that you're complaining about.
5) The people who run the fan club do the best that they can and are creative, just like the band itself. Trying looking at it from their point of view.
6) We as members are part of one of the best bands on the planet IMO. We need to be more grateful for what we have and we shouldn't expect the band to give up too much. They plan these things based on what we as a majority would like to see and hear. They know their fans more than any other group out there and that is why their fan base is so loyal.
Please remember all of this the next time you complain about small little problems. Love ya guys, peace!

Tell that to this bunch of fans whining for a second Seattle show! viewtopic.php?f=4&t=213880
Because one show just isn't enough. :roll:0 -
"We" became spoiled brats because the band gave us everything "we" asked for for years. Now "we" whine about everything and bitch about fairness and rights we never had in the first place.
I am guilty as anyone, but we are only half to blame for the band has spoon fed us, no more like a Chinese Bile Bear Hose in reverse everything from stickers to hats to baby clothes, to ski jackets, to bootlegs to posters to vinyls, to preferred seating, to radio broadcasts, to videos, to amazing live shows.......
As Thievery Corporation calls it, this band is a Beautiful Drug0 -
What do you mean by "becoming" too greedy? I think we've crossed that point a long time ago...0

Some people (the greedy ones) really need to find another hobby...0

There is already a thread about how greedy we all are!

EDIT ^^^ haha, beat me to it.
PS - oh man, I just fucking HATE these theads. :roll:With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
If I could stick my pen in my heart
And spill it all over the stage
Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya
Would you think the boy is strange? Ain't he strange?
If I could win ya, if I could sing ya
A love song so divine
Would it be enough for your cheating heart
If I broke down and cried? If I cried?
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it
I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?
If I could stick a knife in my heart
Suicide right on stage
Would it be enough for your teenage lust
Would it help to ease the pain? Ease your brain?
If I could dig down deep in my heart
Feelings would flood on the page
Would it satisfy ya, would it slide on by ya
Would ya think the boy's insane? He's insane
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
I said I know it's only rock'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it, I like it
I said can't you see that this old boy has been a lonely?
And do ya think that you're the only girl around?
I bet you think that you're the only woman in town
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it
I said I know it's only rock 'n roll but I like it, like it, yes, I do
Oh, well, I like it, I like it. I like it...

I think the root cause might just be that people mistake 'want' for 'need'.
We really don't 'need' t-shirts or concert tickets... we want them, yeah, but as far as needing those things... well, not so much. Greed is founded in want.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

A lot of the people who post on this board (myself included) can sometimes be greedy. But there are plenty of fans who are content with whatever shows/album/merch they get. With the amount of money I spend on this band... I'm allowed to be greedy

While I completely love Chevelle, their website is almost embarrassing haha. When you access the store content sometimes, either the page won't even load properly or you can't access the main page from there because it opens a whole new window. Gotta love the bands music though :thumbup:0 -
what is the downside to wanting more shows - music - merch etc?
it seems like a pretty harmless thing to be greedy about really.0 -

I just gotta say, Chevelle was one of the worst performances I ever saw. Saw 'em open for Foo Fighters once, and I hated every minute of it. I went with my brother -- a meathead, of sorts -- and he loved them. To each his own, I suppose.
But I'm glad PJ's website is better. I wouldn't have expected any less.0 -

I think the downside is all about the approach we take. for example, its ok to want a show in our area but if we don't get one its not OK to bitch about the band not playing closer to our homes.
I remember when the tour dates was put out there and i saw that they were not going to play in Toronto, i was a bit pissed but then i remember that they play here all the time and maybe not having a show in Toronto is noty the end of the world. hell, i am already seeing them in Buffalo and saw them in London.0 -

I personally don't complain about it - but i don't see the harm.
Annoying - sure.
Is it hurting anyone - no, not at all.0 -

Maybe not hurting, but I would think that if the band ever did read some of the stuff on the forums they might wonder why they bother doing anything for the fans. There are some truly whiny self entitled people on here. I sometimes feel dirty after reading some of these posts and threads.
I'm just happy my favorite band is still touring, and releasing music. Whatever they want to put out into the world is cool by me.0 -
The question should be: When did we become so greedy?
Answer: Oh, about ten years ago (give or take).0 -

I think the band would laugh at the complaints - and occasionally see a point to one. For the most part i highly doubt it would change their ideas in regards to what they want to do as a band. They clearly know what they are doing and are going to continue to do it their way.
After all they are PEARL JAM.
to answer the OP's question - YES we are greedy.
We are all addicted to this Pearl Jam shit man!
have you EVER heard a crackhead say "nah, i have had enough crack this year."
FUCK NO!
Some of us are just a little better at keeping the monster at bay0 -

Major disappointment. It comes with want and exceedingly high expectations.0
