Of course it is a nice thought to have children that are cool enough to go to rock shows with their parents, but honestly, I think it is kind of selfish by the parents. I don't think a 5 or 6 year old can enjoy a rock show that is intended for adults as much as an adult can. When I was 5 or 6, drunk people scared the shit out of me. Just like the dark and too loud noises and lots of strangers. I think I was a normal child. If I had children, I would not expose them to something like a rock show, however cool it might be. Find a friend who is grown up that you can take with you. Spare your sweet daughter the stress of a late night mid week rock show with lots of grown ups who just wanna spend a night out. Also, I would worry the whole night when there was a little child standing next to me the whole show. Even if their parents were there. I would not be able to relax and enjoy myself like an adult.
It felt really awkward to see the daddies with their young, tired and stressed-out children walking around the "funny" neighbourhood around Wrigley field at 4 in the morning on a weekend night. I bet they all intended the best for their kids ...
Everybody is different. Just my two cents. Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -

my son is 15 weeks today and a huge PJ fan , 501xxx. He won the lottery for LA 2 and asked me to go with him. He will be 7 months in November, is that too young? (If not will his birth certificate be OK to pick up tix, he doesn't drive yet) :?

7 years old is still pretty young for a PJ concert...maybe you could buy her some kind of merchandise on the night instead and take her when she's older.PJ: Sydney, 11th February 2003 ♥ Sydney, 26th January 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 20th March 2011 ♥ EV: Perth, 7th February 2014 ♥ EV: Perth, 8th February 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 11th February 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 12th February 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 13th February 2014 ♥ EV: Brisbane, 22nd February 2014 ♥ EV: Brisbane, 23rd February 2014 ♥ EV: Brisbane, 25th February 2014 ♥

I took my oldest daughter to her first show when she was 13... we were dead center in the pit at the Great Woods in Hartford, about 4 rows back, for Bruce Springsteen. She was just getting into rock music at that point and knew she'd be sold forever if her first show was this one. Later that fall (2009) I took both daughters (the younger was 9, and this would be her first show) to the old Giants Stadium to see Bruce close it out on night 5. We had the back rail of the pit and she needed it halfway through. She had a good time but her enthusiasm wasn't up there to go to another show for a couple more years (in hindsight, she's pissed that she missed AIC and PJ in 2010, lol). However, at 17 and 13, they dragged me to the pit rail last night in Scranton for Circa Survive, Coheed & Cambria, Jane's Addiction, and Alice in Chains... then we did Dillinger Escape Plan tonight in Clifton Park, NY. They may have been more ready than I was for tonight's show, lol!
In the end, its all about where you think your kid is at. My youngest needed a couple years more when she was nine, but that might not be the case for every kid - just got to test their interest first. If they're interested - like my youngest was at 9 - then test the waters. I had to wait a couple more years until she was ready but now she won't stay home...0 -
I would say 12-13 is a better age to take a kid to see Pearl Jam.. 6-8 Taylor Swift, One Direction maybe.. Kids that are 5,6,7 they are't excited about seeing Pearl Jam, they are just excited to be going anywhere..Bring them to the circus, a wee bit more age appropriate...I'm gone ..Long gone..This time I'm letting go of it all...So long...Cause this time I'm gone0

Have you shown her concert videos? What does she think? There are quite a few threads on this topic - you should do the search and pull them up, as it has been discussed several times. I think 7 is a bit young. Mine was days away from being 9 when she went to her first one, and she was always music obsessed (she is now a music education/opera vocalist major in college) since she was a little baby, so it felt right, but each child and family is different. Make sure your daughter has an idea of what she is getting in to.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.

I know 20-something year olds that say that now! But they know who Jason Aldean and Rihanna are... embarrassing!

Great responses, everyone. I will probably not take her because I do think 7 is too young, but some kids might be able to handle it better than others. Maybe if it was a weekend I'd let her stay up late, but not on a school night. She will be disappointed - she does really want to go, and I even just got her a PJ t-shirt that fits her perfectly. But these are the decisions good parents have to make!

At this point, I have only done maroon 5, Selena Gomez, and jingle ball with the kids.

My daughter has been asking to go to a concert. Hopefully PJ will tour here next year and she'll be 12 then which I think is old enough. I wouldn't take her at 7. Just my opinion.Happy up here in my tree0

Just do it...I've been dragging all three of my offspring to shows since they were all toddlers...with proper ear protection of course. Got the youngest started off early in utero at Groundwork 2001 & Bumbershoot....my oldest was pretty stoked when Cantrell hit the stage with PJ in LA 2009 (last time I saw 2nd row fan club seats...thanks whiners!) and my middle child....well she usually just curls up and sleeps or whines through most shows. Bring them chillens!! Unless you want to listen to 1D all the time!"Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify." --Henry David Thoreau

I have started my kids out with the Life is Good festival in Canton, MA. The festival is geared towards kids with children music (Fresh Beat Band, Yo Gabba Gabba, Kidz Bop) during the day but also brings in great adult acts (Dave & Tim, Ray Lamontagne, Ben Harper, Donovan Frankenreiter, Jack Johnson, Grace Potter, ALO, etc). My oldest has been all three years and she is now 7 and my youngest went last year at 4. They also have all kid activities during the day such as face painting, obstacle courses, rock wall, arts and crafts, etc. Plus the festival is so spread out that loud music is not a factor. I also take my parents and book two hotel rooms is walking distance so if the kids get tired they can go back to the room with a sitter and my wife and I can stay until the end.Springfield 4/6/94, Boston 4/6/94, Hartford 10/2/96, New York 9/11/98, Hartford 9/13/98, Mansfield 8/30/00, Boston 9/28/04, Reading 10/1/04, Quebec City 9/20/05, Boston 5/24/06, Hartford 5/13/06, New York 6/25/08, Hartford 6/27/08 Philadelphia 10/31/09, Hartford 10/15/10,

Sounds enjoyable for you...
Needless to say...she's been to the fewest shows. No raining on my PJ parade!

I really think it depends on the kid...is she interested in the whole thing, does she like to listen to the music or watch videos at home? I don't think a seated concert is that bad of an environment for a kid, and I'm sure we've all skipped school for worse reasons.
The question you have to ask, and give yourself an honest answer, is: Would SHE enjoy being there? I know you'd love to take her, but if you're not 100% sure that she would really like it as well, it might be better to wait.0
