Looking for some input from my PJ doggie friends

Bugsy is having surgery to remove a mast cell tumor on his chest next month. They believe it was just an abscess, but we'll have it biopsied to make sure. (Started out as a small bump a few months back, it exploded and a trip to the emergency vet said it was probably just an infection... they found no cancerous cells then, but said to biopsy to be sure). Its been fine, but he's got this excess skin now and could be prone to further infection if he scratches it or something.

So, im just looking for input or tips on how to deal w/ a dog that has stitches. The bump is on his chest, and when he scratches his stomach with his back leg, he can't quite reach it, but i know the incision will be much larger than the current bump, and am afraid that it will be easy for him to catch the stitches with his back leg if he scratches. They've told me to keep him in a shirt post surgery, but im thinking he'll still be able to scratch the area under the shirt.

Im probably just over-thinking this all... But my little guy is quite rambunctious... likes to army crawl, flop around in his bed like a maniac, play rough. I'm just hoping they send him home with a bunch of drugs to keep him out of it for the first few days while the stitches heal.

And Bugsy is fine right now... kind of a preventative thing at this point (assuming its not cancerous, which the vet seems to think it is not). In fact... when the thing burst, he didnt even notice... proceeded to bounce around and bark at us for not continuing to play ball with him but he was happy for the unexpected car ride to the E-vet.

after Gracie's (most recent :roll: ) surgery, she had about an 8 inch incision behind her right front leg. she was wearing a t-shirt and that worked pretty well except for when it drug in the mud or whatever. a scrunchie on the top of her back worked great for taking up the slack and giving her that form fitting look
