    I love both songs.
They are both sincere love songs. I don't feel that the world can have too many good, sincere, love songs.

I actually thought it sounded kinda cool musically the one time I listened to it, a little like Indifference. Although the lyrics did make me cringe a bit, they were just a little too much. By the way I always hate it when people say IMO. If I'm saying it, it is obviously my opinion and it goes without saying unless we are talking about something that is a universal truth, but i don't feel that opinions on PJ songs fall into that category, IMO.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: I may have taken the IMO a bit too far, but hey, was just getting a message across. Just tired of the negativity, I guess. But that is just an opinion of course.

I like Just Breathe. Maybe Future Days will grow on me, but I was not drawn to it upon first listen at Wrigley.
So in my opinion, Just Breathe wins.

I like romantic songs, if they are not too sappy or cheesy. To my ears, Future Days falls dangerously close to those categories. Other people will love it, and so it goes. I simply do not.

I like the way you think "Forty Shades." It seems that you have a very well thought out perspective on these songs.

A mature perspective. One that requires more than just the usual simplistic manner of thinking. I have yet to hear the new song but consider "Just Breathe" 7 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I will listen to the new song soon or may just wait for the album release.

I do agree with you about the lack of humility on the board here and the seemingly arrogant and narcissistic tones that some of the people have chosen!

Wishful thinking here but I'm kind of hoping the non-MYM section of the tour video is part of Future Days.

My bet would be that this song - if at all - is Sirens we heard some stories about. Also because that specific individual had heard four songs (including MYM) and it wouldn't surprise me that the songs were linked to the trailer. (He wrote about the countdown and the trailer.) besides that; the music on the tour video seems darker than what we heard of FD.

I can dig Just Breathe, nothing mind-blowing, but it's a nice little tune that gets stuck in my head. I've always enjoyed BS for what it was, very quick poppier version of PJ--nothing wrong with that at all for a change of pace.

From what I've heard of Future Days, I'm not feeling it at all right now, but I should probably reserve judgment for the proper studio version. To me it just feels like a song Ed has already done dozens of times before. It's not a bad song by any means, but that cheesy piano at the beginning and end (BO'B) totally ruins it for me. I have no issue with little piano in my PJ, but for this particular one it was a complete turn off. MYM and Lightning Bolt are much bigger stand outs to me right now...
  • Just Breathe was not a sappy love song and it was finger picked.

To my ears I get where people say Just breathe sounds "somewhat" like the stuff off of into the wild.

I think Future Days sounds a lot like some of the sappier songs on Ukelele songs "without the uke" more than it sounds like Just Breathe. That is what I hear when i listen the lyrics and vocal melody.

I'm fine with that. I like Ukelele songs. Not soo sure that same kind of vibe will work thrust into the middle of a "Pearl Jam" record though. I guess we'll just have to see.

I listened a few more times to FD and the song is growing on me. The first two lines are admittedly (IMO of course - ;) ) lyrically not the best, but the song picks up from there. It reminds me musically more of TMW than JB to be honest, and the piano near the end is just (beautifully) fragile. I think that the lyrics, what I can make out, are better and better near the end; especially that "cyclone" bit. Would love to hear a studio version of this one.

I start to see a theme developing here, if you combine this song with LB, about love and the loss of love. I am wondering how MYM fits in the overall theme of the album.

Like someone stated the cover has indeed the Eye of Cyclops in there (some nice Greek mythology here) about imprisonment and freedom. (Maybe thats why we also see the cross and the Islam symbols on the cover?) Maybe this album is about love, freedom, letting go... I don't know. But I am getting more and more excited.

Ps: if my feeling about the album theme is correct, and mind you I only distill this from the songs and the cover, I may be well off base, than the first two lines of FD fit quite well; they sum up the before-a-mentioned theme.

This is pretty much how I feel as well. MYM is a cool little punk song but nothing special, I'd give it a grade of a B. The other two are some of the most generic tunes I have ever heard them write. D+ for Lightning Bold, D- for Future Days. I'm starting to think this will be the last album, never felt that way before but the quality is just not there. I think even the band knows it deep down. I'm thrilled they are still around and playing together but the evolution of this band probably ended with Rio Act. Avacado & Backspacer were good records but offered nothing new. I really hope the rest of this album has some suprises because right now my expectations are at an all time low.

Both Future Days and Lightning Bolt has found the skeptic in me for the new album. Im not ready to give up on it just yet off course, but im not holding my breath. MYM was pretty cool. One hit and two (bad) misses for me so far.

The bands does sound good though.

I hear you totally but I really think you need to give Lightening bolt some more listens. Crank up a high quality version and listen to it a few times. I think its a great tune. i like mym but like you said.. its nothing that earth shattering. I'm sure people said the same or worse about lukin when it came out. But I like unthought known a lot too. If you hate that song then i could see you hating this one too i guess. I'm also a huge fan of severed hand and you said you didn't like avocado. I'd take unthought known.. severed hand, and lightening bolt over bushleager any day. As far as songs like Can't keep, Save you and green disease that i like a lot from riot act... when they came out someone could say the same thing you did about them being nothing new and the band stopped evolving prior to that.

But I dont get the hate around here for avocado at all. To me songs like big wave and life wasted are kinda generic but songs like Marker in the Sand, unemployable, aand parachutes are like nothing they ever did before. I dont love parachutes live though. But Marker kills!

Damn. I wish I didn't agree with you. I'm not being a jerk. This comes from absolute sincerity and it breaks my heart to have to agree with you.

Sadly, I believe after Backspacer, Ole, LIghtning bolt and Future Days, that the well is dry. Sucks.
