It just pisses me off that doctors are allowed to prescribe these things, knowing that they can be dangerous to certain people. There are thousands of other types of sleeping medications around, so why was he prescribed this one?
before a drug hits the market... they test them alot... also before they hit the market... most side effects are known... and sad to say they don't work and are not safe for everyone (they know this too).... every drug cannot be safe for 100% of consumers... there is always a small percentage of people that it will either not work with OR will have severe side effects. This is why doctor's need to prescribe this medication and it is not over the counter....

yeah but........Doctors need to be a lot more careful who they prescribe them to! Just about anyone can get a script for just about anything these days....
As long as you know what symptoms to say you've got, the Doc will give you a script and just say, "give that a go and if that doesn't work, come back and see me and we'll try something else"

Perfect example..... Steven had pneumonia a few Winters ago.
    1. it took a while for them to diagnose it and only did in the end, cuz I insisted they did more than just have a quick listen and say it might be a cold, and if it gets worse come back
    2. Dr gave me the script and I took it to the chemist to be filled.
The chemist was given the script by the girl at the counter.....looked at the script and looked over at me and came straight over. She asked who the script was for and I told her it was for my (then) 9 year old son. Her face just went  She said she just had to speak to the Dr, before filling it. Well she spoke to the Doctor twice. She told me and the Doctor that what had bee prescribed would be a very strong dose for an adult, let alone a 9 year old child and didn't want to fill the prescription. Both calls to the Doctor - the Dr told her it was fine and to go ahead with it.
In the end, the chemist rang the Doctor that actually owned the Drs surgery and that Dr FREAKED!!! He said that if I had have been given that prescription for Steven, he would not have made it through the night!

Thank god for the Chemist!!!! I'm not a Dr. I don't know these things......I have to put my trust in that the Doctor knows

Hence my previous statement - I hate Doctors!!
We rarely go to see a Doctor.....has to be a real emergency. If I can find a natural, alternative way to treat something, I'll find it.

3 or 4 years ago Leigh and I were drinking HEAPS (after our only dog died) and he had a bit of anxiety and a sore chest so he went to the doctor who told him to take 2 weeks off drinking. Leigh must have had a look on his face like "oh great!!" and the doctor said "let me prescribe you some ANTI-DEPRESSANTS so the two weeks aren't too hard on you. You'll have to wean yourself off them in a months or two".

Leigh brought the paper script home and threw it away.

Leigh said to me "how the fuck am I diagnosed as being DEPRESSED when I went in because I had anxiety and thought I was having a heart attack (due to his sore chest which ended up being his rotator cuff and generally a weak left side of his body due to 25 years of drawing in bad positions).

Never went back to that doctor. Life isn't meant to be roses every fucking day!

Yep.....ANYONE can be diagnosed as being depressed these days and given anti depressants. Anti depressants are a terrible drug and can really fuck a person up!!!
Wouldn't you think if a Dr genuinely thought a person was depressed, they'd lean more towards some councelling or something. Depressed people need to talk about their problem and get that kind of help, not go home and pop potentially dangerous drugs.

You'd be amazed how many illnesses etc; are caused by skeletal problems.

So glad Leigh had the sense to screw up that script!!

That is fucked up.... yeah doctors seem to know jack here!.... I tell them what is wrong with me and they seem to be snooty when you question things.... then things like that (your case) happens... hmmm

Chemists do seem a lot smarter! Might be because they actually do chemistry and could make drugs.. whilst the docs just hand them out !! :) in a general kinda way.....

Isn't that the shit that turned that guy into Papa Smurf?! :p i.e Blue Skin

I buy Suttons. Don't know if you have that over there, they're a WA manufacturer.
You can get it in Health food shops here in WA.

    I'm not one to recommend things, purely because what works for one, won't necessarily work for another. I can only say my experiences and like I said we've been using this to treat pretty much everything from burns, cuts, bites etc; to flu's, stomach upsets, mastitis etc etc etc etc ETC;

When Mum cured her dog of cancer with it, it absolutely blew her vet away - he'd said there was no hope. That vet now uses it in his surgery and sells it.

Yep one of my best mates is going through it and another I reckon is only weeks off the same thing. Im not taking sides here at all but both girls changed incredibly after the wedding - one of them Ive seen twice in 18 months and I was best man. She doesnt come to any of our do's let alone birthdays, NYE etc etc. Just sits on the couch putting on more weight and getting new cars and pushing him every 6 months for another $20K wage increase.

He has tried but is over it. Very sad.

See if it wasn't for having children I could tell you Id be happily unmarried for the rest of my life

anyone watch arrested development where Tobius is trying out for the Blue Man Group, but seeing how the make up is such a bitch to take off he just leaves it on all the time.

and there is like blue hand prints through the whole house, fuck that's a funny show.

yep....it's too easy to get married and too easy to get divorced.
Shit if Glenn and I talked divorced every time we've had a tiff in the last 18 years......people just don't want to work at making things work these days - too hard  If it was worth getting married in the first place, surely it's worth working at!

PS: I do realise that some marrital problems, simply can't be resolved, but a majority of the time they can, with some effort :)

Until you meet the "right" person...then you'd be ecstatically married for the rest of your life.

I was lucky I met my "right" person at 19 and I'm still with him. It would suck to go through break ups etc....or a divorce.

I think Leigh and I will be right....after nearly 10 years of being together, I'd be shocked if we got married then one of us suddenly "changed" then we divorced.

I'd be very surprised if anything changed with you two as well :)

That's the other thing.....people are getting married after only knowing each other for such a short time. There are the one's that work out.....but not very often :(
Glenn and I were best mates for four years before .....'becoming a couple' ;) then lived together another 4 years before marrying and we only married because we wanted to start a family....but yeah.....I doubt we would have bothered getting married if we weren't planning on having kids.

LOL!!! He makes his own....I know a few people that do that. I wouldn't - it's too hard to minitor the strength of it.
Also.....we don't drink or use it every day, like a lot of people - only use it when needed.
I do know people that drink it every day....and they are definately NOT blue :D

Yeah, a main reason Leigh and I are getting married is for that reason ie kids. But I'm not even changing my last name so what difference does it make?!?!? I want to marry him though for other reasons too.

Me and Bianca have been seeing each other for 10 years in march, married 3 in October.

i first met her when she came to my school in year 10, i hated her. then in year 12 got to know her cause she was in some of my classes, and yeah, i guess after putting up with me for 10 years she ain't going anywhere now.

I couldn't wait to change to Glenns surname - felt proud to take on his name!
It was hard for a little while, as far as I was well established in my trade and business. But it all sorted in the end.
It wasn't like I was famous or something and I had to keep my stage name.

We had a friend who was married, they had 2 kids -so all 4 of them had the surname (let's say) 'Smith'
her hubby was killed in an accident....a few years later she hooked up with a guy 'Jones', she changed back to her Maiden name 'Brown' and they had a baby.
    So now they have:
    her - Brown
    him - Jones
her first 2 kids - Smith
    new child - Jones

the kids get really confused....as do other kids at their school.
