thank god it's not staples...sports arena is gonna rock!

Now we just have to find a local bar, maybe something south of the venue, for the pre-party! ;)

i say we head up to sorority row at sc :corn:

The sorority women will appreciate your ability to reduce your carbon output!
  • Shame the Gibson is closing, I would have loved to see PJ there!

How is the Sports Arena? I actually don't think I have been there before

It is over 50 years old.....quite the utilitarian venue (thats me being polite!)

the sports arena is a dump...but there are no luxury suites or shit like that...sound is good and even if your in the way back or up top it's small enough that you don't feel like your seeing the band from long beach

besides, it's a historical landmark

Have you been to the Long Beach Arena? Similar to that as far as seating and views go.

    In that hood?

I'm driving straight there and out as fast as possible ;)

But it's in such an exciting area with a unique 'popping' night life. Oh the stories that can be told. Everyone should be up for the excitement!

    everybody!

To be fair to the Sports Arena.....The Forum was/is a dump too.

I really wish they would have played Irvine or Santa Barbara instead. I guess they can't completely forget LA, but the venues they currently choose from are not the best historically
Sacramento 10-30-00, Bridge School 10-20 and 10-21-01, Bridge School 10-25 and 10-26-01, Irvine 06-02-03, Irvine 06-03-03, San Diego 06-05-03, San Diego 07-07-06, Los Angeles 07-09-06, Santa Barbara 07-13-06, London UK 06-18-07, San Diego 10-9-09, San Diego 2013, LA 1 2013

I saw Green Day at the Sports Arena a few months ago. It was a good atmosphere. I approve of the Sports Arena. Where are we doing the Pre-Party?

Had a feeling it was going to be the Sports Arena, and going Bruce style with the separated GA area now. See ya there!
    Is it Bruce style?

I guess not. Bruce has the upfront enclosed GA Pit area that they assign randomly by lottery, and then the rest of the floor is GA. Didn't realize the rest of the floor would be seated. If I were to choose reserved, my hope would be to be on the risers on either wing. I was on the floor there for Bruce and my friend had tickets in the first or second row of the risers. That was a great view being just elevated above the floor.

Wonder if these will still be "Evening with Pearl Jam" shows?

Still torn over prioritizing between GA and Resv!

Resv. seems like a safer bet.

Flight is booked. Staying with my buddy who lives in Culver City. Looks like the LA sports arena isn't too far away from there. Isn't there some sort of train that goes from Culvery City to near the arena? Are there any good bars/restaurants in the area that would be good to hit up before the show?

My two cents as someone who went to USC (right next to Sports Arena) and attended most home SC games (Coliseum is on the same property as Sports Arena) over the past 20 years until a few years ago when I moved back east....
If you are going to party somewhere near the venue it is going to be in a dive bar. Could go to the 901 Club (known as the 9-0) if you want a shithole of a bar that will have co-eds running around. There is pretty much crap around for bars there....a pretty good bar on campus called Traditions if you can find your way there.
My advice would be to party in Culvery City -- have some good grub and beer at one of the many cool places in that area (suggest Ford's Filling Station) and then take a taxi to the arena.
For a much shorter taxi ride you could start downtown @ LA Live and party it up there. My guess is the Wishlist party would be somewhere downtown....that leaves you a few minute ride to the arena.

Someone else may be able to offer train advice. I know you can jump the train somewhere by the airport (which is not far from Culver City) but I dont know if that goes downtown. In 20 years of living in LA/Orange counties I never set foot on the train. It is not like Chicago/NYC where it is a normal mode of transport.

I'm pondering taking my kids to their first show too...my 9 year old daughter is definitely interested, but my 7 year old daughter probably wouldn't complain too much if we waited until next time in SoCal.

I've got GA for SD and LA2, but thinking of getting 4 public tickets for my family for the LA1 show as well.
