Wendy Davis Filibuster live now...amazing!! watch now

That was intriguing to watch, and Wendy Davis is my new hero for standing up for the women of Texas and our rights. As a native of Ft. Worth, I am doubly proud. I am also proud of the pro-choice men and women who packed the Senate gallery.
I am ashamed of the republicans in my state who wish to ban abortion so as to further their political careers. And I am ashamed that they chose to make up objections to her filibuster, which followed the stated rules of the Senate.
But I am most ashamed that the republican "leadership" attempted to falsify records by changing the time stamp to make it appear that the vote occurred before midnight. Those people should be sanctioned at least, if not removed from office.0 -

I hate filibusters more, i should have said that instead.
She is an inspiration for some, but in the end filibusters seem like a waste of time.~Carter~

As a woman living in Texas, and about to face a virtual ban on the procedure, I don't consider this to have been a waste of time. Even if another special session is called to ramrod this legislation through (because they couldn't get it passed in regular session or in the first special session), the women of Texas and pro choice men have sent a message to Rick Perry and his good ole boys that they aren't going down without a fight0 -

Yeah, it seems pretty stupid that a person talking for 11 hours can stop legislation that would have passed from becoming law just because it's a new day.
I'm making no comment on the law in question here, just the filibuster process. It's the equivalent of taking your ball and going home.
I think the purpose of the ability to filibuster is to encourage compromise between the majority party and the minority party. Otherwise, those in majority can just do whatever they want, which isn't ideal0 -

Good for you then.
Keep fighting and make your voice heard.~Carter~

Putting together plans now to drive from Dallas to Austin on Monday and protest. Don't they know that you don't mess with Texas women?

Another special session has been called and begins on Monday. If the bill passes only five facilities in the state would be able to perform abortions rather than the current 45. http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/06 ... ?mobile=wt2003: San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Seattle; 2005: Monterrey; 2006: Chicago 1 & 2, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Detroit; 2008: West Palm Beach, Tampa; 2009: Austin, LA 3 & 4, San Diego; 2010: Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbus, Indianapolis; 2011: PJ20 1 & 2; 2012: Missoula; 2013: Dallas, Oklahoma City, Seattle; 2014: Tulsa; 2016: Columbia, New York City 1 & 2; 2018: London, Seattle 1 & 2; 2021: Ohana; 2022: Oklahoma City0

Have you heard if the vote will be Monday? The special session has been called, but it's not clear if the vote will actually take place Monday or not.drivingrl: "Will I ever get to meet Gwen Stefani?"

I don't think it will. It has to go through the entire legislative process again.2003: San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Seattle; 2005: Monterrey; 2006: Chicago 1 & 2, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, Detroit; 2008: West Palm Beach, Tampa; 2009: Austin, LA 3 & 4, San Diego; 2010: Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbus, Indianapolis; 2011: PJ20 1 & 2; 2012: Missoula; 2013: Dallas, Oklahoma City, Seattle; 2014: Tulsa; 2016: Columbia, New York City 1 & 2; 2018: London, Seattle 1 & 2; 2021: Ohana; 2022: Oklahoma City0 -

It does. And unfortunately, the legislature doesn't have to post any sort of schedule until the session actually begins.
I spoke with Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, and they suggested following their FB and Twitter pages to keep tabs on events they've got planned - so that's what I'll do!drivingrl: "Will I ever get to meet Gwen Stefani?"

I haven't and they won't post a schedule until Monday, but they have to re-introduce the bills and refer to committee. So I'm not sure... I just see a lot of activity for getting people out there that day.0 -
i'd love to join in the protest, but i can't go to texas....
i got priors....

Thousands of pro choice demonstrators showed up at the Capitol and many are planning to stay for days. Anyone who is interested can see pictures and information on the Planned Parenthood of Texas Facebook page and also Wendy Davis' Facebook page. I'm so proud of my fellow Texans.
As of today, the bill has passed out of the committee in the TX house.0 -
You know what...I'm anti-abortion, but I hate the fact that people are now just looking for loopholes, etc to make abortion tougher to get. Either it's akin to killing an unborn child or it's a women's right to choose. Stop the nonsense with stupid laws to force your agenda in a non-legit (in my opinion) manner.
And, if the majority of anti-abortion people would have backed educations, etc and focused their we would be much closer to zero abortions then we are today. You cannot say someone can't have an abortion but not support the methods to prevent pregnancies.
Makes me sick. But it also makes me sick when I see people cheering when the pro-choice movement gets a "victory". Yeah, more abortions!!!! We've lost sight of the importance of this topic in favor of political posturing, fights songs, and winning. Both sides should be fuckin ashamed of themselves.hippiemom = goodness0
