I'm surprised there isn't more love for Eight Men Out.

It's an apropos quote from Major League. I edited the post to include the full quotation and added quotation marks.

Sorry, I'm not one who believes that baseball is some sort of magical ceremony with called shots, shattered lights (spoiler alert: the book ends differently) and ghosts in fucking cornfields that help you resolve your daddy issues. It's a game, which should be fun. Major League is fun.

So maybe I meant too highfalutin/highbrow.
Yeah, no need to get highbrow with baseball movies. Major League is an entertaining baseball movie, and is fun, and I love that Ken Griffey Jr. and all those other players are in it. But there is nothing wrong with romanticizing the game with ghosts and smashed lights either. Yes baseball is supposed to be fun. Bit it's also supposed to give people a sense of magic. All's fair in baseball movies!

griffey was not in major league......you're thinking of little big league, i believe.

major league, the natural, and bull durham--in no particular order are the best.

Major League...no Its an OK lighthearted movie, but its like saying The Mighty Ducks is the best hockey movie.

    The Natural IMO

I was very disappointed with Cobb as well.
Not to mention it was a fabricated and "enhanced" version of that slimeball Al Stump's already fabricated version of Ty Cobb.

    Too high!

What do you mean it's too high?

at the phils game last weekend, my wife goes "too high" in response to a fly out to right. i gave her the "what do you mean too high?"

...she failed to grasp the reference which she inadvertently, ironically, started.

Can someone answer me a question about the movie "The Sandlot"?

So in the movie a grownup Small's is the narrator, right?   Towards the end of the movie you find out what happened to everyone and Small's becomes the broadcaster for the Dodgers.  They're two different people and their voices sound nothing alike!  Why didn't they use the same person?

Field of Dreams. It's my favorite movie of all time, baseball or not.

I love most baseball movies, honestly. Bull Durham, A League of Their Own, Bad News Bears, The Sandlot, Major League, Mr. 3000, The Benchwarmers, Little Big League, The Natural, Rookie of the Year, For Love of the Game, Brewster's Millions, Eight Men Out, Sugar, The Babe, Bang the Drum Slowly, and on and on.

Field of Dreams is one of my favorites too.  The first time I saw it was very emotional for me around some issues with my pop.  Great film!

We just saw 42 the other night and really, really liked it!

Bull Durham and Major League also a couple of favorites.

i'm also gonna go with Fever Pitch (starring Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore).  It was a pretty good romantic comedy.

Went back and read the thread so Cobb and 8 Men were mentioned but all the others weren't.  Everyone needs to go and check them out, hell, Pride of The Yankees has Babe Ruth in it and Fear Strikes Out was filmed DURING Jimmy Piersall's playing career.

    Hilarious and hugely under-appreciated.

I reluctantly took my daughter to see The Sandlot this summer. (She wouldn't take no for an answer.)

It sucks as much now as it did when it came out, especially for a young girl. Misogynistic shit movie.

But at least it led to some good discussions about how girls are perceived to be weak by boys and how that poisoned idea perpetuates throughout our society as a whole, taking the decade of the film's setting into account and driving home how relatively nothing has changed and how a lot has only gotten worse.

Even more than last season, when she was dubbed "The Enforcer" by her coach, she has something to prove on the ice this season. Watch out!
