I would like to share some thoughts on these shows..

First off, thank you pearl jam for two unforgettable nights that out of all my shows, still hasn't been recreated, neither in energy from the band or the crowd.

The crowd... The bootlegs don't do it any justice. The crowd was unbelievably loud. Every word to every song felt like all of New York City was singing along. After so many shows, it felt like this was the peak for me. I felt like the whole world was in unison during those hours, everyone in the building seemed happy...

After seeing two shows in Seattle in 09 with a less than stellar crowd, then seeing Vancouver which was the same, then ACL in Austin which is a festival, and then Newark... The band was great but I hadn't seen a great crowd since Bonnaroo 08... Then to experience these shows with ten club seats that were great, reinforced my love of this band and inspired me to continue to travel the world seeing shows.

The stretch of songs during the encores, night one, still stand out as over the top to me. Night two was like that all night but night one... The run of songs here

    You Are
    Love, Reign O'er Me
    State of Love and Trust
    Once
    Porch
    Jeremy
    Leash
    Crazy Mary

Were insane to me. I love these songs... And after a few slow numbers then into you are.. Into love reign.. When the first chorus hits on love reign even on the bootleg, you can hear and tell EVERYONE is singing along.. I looked around and have never felt such energy in my entire life. Every time I hear love reign from this show I get goosebumps. Plus a near 10 min porch, the building going crazy to once and Jeremy, the also near 10 min crazy Mary with mike and boom trading solos and mike running laps around the stage... That night and both of these shows will forever be burned into my memory and I hope one day to experience a two show run like this again.

Can't be part of it if you don't go! That's my feelings :)

It's all I can think about the last two days, "3 years ago I was..."

These shows almost ruined live music for me because nothing compares to it. Still nothing has topped it. I have never felt energy like that from a crowd, EVER. The setlists were amazing and the band was on fire. It's bittersweet to think about these shows. I'm so grateful that I was there, but sad that it's been 3 years and I haven't had a PJ moment like it since. I'm scared it won't happen again. It's like a drug and it's addiciting as all hell.

    Great shows, great nights!

It's true the boots don't do justice to the feel of the energy in MSG those nights, but even on the boots you can tell the crowd was pretty darn loud.

Looking forward to the announcements of the next MSG dates! (I don't believe for a minute it's gonna be Brooklyn! )

I've only got the boots to go by but for me these shows are what keeps being a PJ fan interesting. There are songs I've not heard live I'd like to hear more than others in every setlist (I'm Open, You Are, Last Exit, Rats) and those that for me personally don't add anything (Sweet Lew, Slow Lukin, Love Reign O'er Me) to a setlist to sway it towards being a great show or something more run of the mill. The two MSG shows in 2003 were great and a particular high point of the tour but there's just something more about the energy from the 2010 shows. Hype is a great thing and there's any amount surrounding MSG shows so for the band to live up to it requires a good performance. They played a blinder on two consecutive nights. They were by no means perfect and they never are to be honest but compared to other shows often hailed as classics these shows are fantastic even by their own standards. Very hard to separate the shows but I'd pick up night one more often if only for the reason it has more songs I haven't heard live and I wouldn't have to endure Sweet Lew. Both shows for me are streets ahead for back to back shows than anything played since.

  • Ill be putting night 2 on for the ride home. These two shows were unreal. Even though it was MSG, I don't think any of us walking in knew just how special those nights would be.

A huge thank you and here's to hoping Wrigley is right up there with them...

Wasn't at the show, but the MSG 2 boot has really grown on me, but I just wish the boot did the crowd more justice because I know it had to be insane in there.

I have to ask, when they came out and opened with Corduroy on Night 2 - what was that like when the entire place just fucking erupted?

I love the way Ed says "And away we go..." and then they hit Corduroy.

If I'm being honest though, I always prefer slow openers except for the occasional Go-->Animal so I was stuck for a few moments between slight disappointment and being bowled over by the crowd response.

These shows mean the world to me as they were my first 2 PJ show. Got into the band in 2008 and finally got to see them live 2 years later.

You think you have a love for this band that can't grow any more. You think you know how live PJ is from DVDs, Youtube, others' recounts, etc...But NOTHING compares to actually seeing them live. Every expectation was 1000% exceeded. I had the goofiest smile on my face for weeks after those shows. The fact that a concert- a simple concert- can create such joy and hope and empowerment... what an amazing thing. I'll never forget those 2 nights.

I agree with this so much! I've been to 6 pj shows since, and Europe was amazing, different energy level but still very high... But the crowds at these shows were like everyone was screaming the lyrics. Even on the bootleg you can notice Ed signing a higher pitch because of how loud the crowd is, like he sings higher because everyone is that loud... I always dreamed of shows like this listening to Seattle 2 from 2000 or Milan Italy 2000 etc with these amazing crowds.. Never thought I'd be part of it like I was in 2010.

The audience YouTube videos are great, really show off the crowd volume.

The roar was unbelievable. It was so loud it could actually be felt, if you can believe that. The energy from the crowd from Corduroy into Hail Hail into DTE was just amazing, and hearing the echo of everyone singing along...no words for it. By far, my all-time best concert experience BY FAR.

I am waiting patiently ;) for the good PJ things that are coming! :D

Thanks for sharing and keep them coming! :)
