is Pearl Jam 2005.10.03 Philadelphia, PA a top 5 ever?

'05 show was fun. Had a great time. But I'd relive any of the '09 Spectrum shows before this one.
I think they played around 30 tunes in '05 and 10 of them were covers. Not that that is bad, just a different type of show.
I remember the crowd singing the last verse of Even Flow very loudly.I've met Rob
DEGENERATE FUK
This place is dead

it's not in the top 5 for me. Spectrum 2003 was definitely better for me and to be honest the Borgata 1 show a few nights prior i thought was better. thought the encore in 2005 was a little too mellow and really slowed the energy down. I think most people rank it high because of the rarities played but i always thought it was a good not great show.0

this is what i tried to say and you said it perfectly0 -
in my opinion the best cover of Leaving Here they ever did
nothing against Jeff & Stone but having Sleater-Kinney backing vocals gave it cooler feel

I try not to compare shows- they are each very special - always at least one magical moment- that being said I count Spectrum 2003 to be one of my favorite shows- it was more like being at a big backyard bash with  10,000 of your best friends- I don't think anyone sat down all night- anyway Wachovia 2005 was awesome too- and of course Spectrum 09 shows- Philly shows rock!!!elwayvedder wrote:Spectrum '03 crushed Wachovia '05 in my opinion. The 2005 show was on fire until the technical difficulties and after that, it seemed both the crowd and the band lost it's energy. Spectrum 2003 was just balls to the wall the entire show with emotion and energy. I remember leaving the 2005 show thinking it was good but not Spectrum 2003...I'm certainly not complaining though as both shows were gifts!!

Peace Love & Pearl Jam forever!!0 -
it's always cool how there's a show or two from each tour that totally transcends just being an awesome show.
Arriving there I didn't think Spectrum03 would be a show i'd remember everything about 10 years later but for whatever reason I remember everything when i've forgotten a lot of things about other shows that year and other tours. The 10Club line was pleasant. Weather was great. Sparta showed me what the acoustics would be like (LOUD). Crazy Mary opened a show for the first time and it only made the crowd even louder.
The acoustics of that building + the loudest US crowd i've ever heard was a cool mix. Kind of floored the band. Their reaction was pretty funny. But yeah the "Ten" songs were played like it was 91. My favorite version of Betterman ever. And great dialogue between songs from EV all night. Special night. It was worth the road trip.Post edited by cp3iverson on0 -
Flawless April weather. I remeber all of the beach balls in the crowd prior to the band coming on stage.
When they did the roar was deafening.
That version of Betterman is fantastic. A lot of fire in it. Cannot believe that was 10 yrs ago already. And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.0 -

I couldn't agree more!!! The best and loudest crowd I've heard in any arena for any band.Member 164xxx

Comparing the spectrum to wachovia center or the FU center or whatever they call that heartless place these days is absurd. The spectrum is truly one of a kind and the newer place is the exact opposite. As far as the shows the 05 setlist may be as good as any in history in my opinion. He was ok but wondering about wandering0

great show. funny what happened during crazy mary. loved the once/bleed for me/blood...order of thr songsit's largely due to eddie that i liked to jump off of things as a child...0

man what an idiot, if you read a few posts down you would see I realized it wasn't at the spectrum, I mean seriously, people are too lazy to read the threads and take the first chance to cap on somebody, if you could read we already established this, I got confused because both building were named Wachovia, seriously that is all you have to offer, rehashing something that was already covered? like Jim Rome says "have a take and don't suck" and yours didRedMosquito22 wrote:Big Bank Hank wrote:the 2005 show was also at the Spectrum

thanks to all of you who contributed to this thread, I am going to download the 2003 show, and check it out, and that is why these threads are cool, it is all about the music0

I've only listened to both the '03 and '05 boots, but I remember being a fresh or soph in high school and hearing everyone freak out about the '03 show on the radio from the live coverage on MMR. Personally, I enjoy listening to the '03 more, and everyone is right...there is no comparison between The Spectrum and FU Center (it's name at the time). I've seen concerts at tons of venues in tons of states, and not one comes close to it acoustically. Well not counting small clubs or anything like that.
I brought my friend from college who is a hardcore Boston guy and even he was blown away by the place. The only good part about piss breaks in the one bathroom for guys was the fact that standing there taking a piss, it still sounded like you were 10 rows deep. A bit of hometown bias but I freakin miss that place.
But going to the '09 shows, the atmosphere in the parking lot, the train, the whole entire city was something I'll never see again. With the Phillies in the Series against the Yanks, Flyers game before Night 4 on Halloween and Eagles/Giants game on Sunday....the whole Southeastern PA/NJ area was on a week long high. Something the boots can't capture

I'm in no position to rank it amongst all other shows objectively...
But I will say it's one of my absolute favorites that I've personally been to. Great show, caught it the night before my wife (then fiancee) and I traveled back home for our wedding!- 98 Pgh

I have been lucky enough to attend most of the "epic" shows of the last decade and there is no doubt that Philly 05 is right up there...
It was a special one time show added to accommodate area fans that got screwed in the borgata ticket sale and post sale ticket flipping frenzy that ensued... How many times do you see a last minute add on to close a tour? The rocky theme playing on the site all week leading up to the announcement... Actually playing Philly and not over at urine soaked Camden... The perfect weather for the show... The Canadian whiskey I brought back from touring in Canada a few weeks earlier... Last real show of the tour... The long setlist which is right up there with any setlist I have witnessed... The great mix of covers... The rarities... Wash opening... Around the bend, harvest moon, breath, and crown of thorns in the 1st encore... Once, bleed for me, blood closing the 1st set... An Elvis cover... This is why I love non album tours and shows, the set is totally varied... The atmosphere... Everything about that show was top notch
Absolutely an amazing concert that I would relive in a second... Hope they play there in the fall0 -
