Some that are stuck in the stone ages have never asked to be placed in the position where they feel the need for revenge, blood, or justice. Some would just as soon have their 5 year old alive and playing in their living room than murdered by some twisted freak. Given that their life has been turned into one massive shit storm losing a child to such violent means in such offensive manner... you can forgive them for wanting a different level of justice than one so enlightened as yourself can't you?"My brain's a good brain!"0 -

Colorado prosecutors seeking death penalty against James Holmes

James Holmes is the textbook example of why I am in favor of the death penalty. It is used far too often and in cases where there is reasonable doubt, I do not argue that. Many times it is used and I do not support it. But in this case there is no question of guilt. There will be no rehabilitation of James Holmes. There is no reason to keep him alive in a prison for fifty years. This is a crime that deserves our ultimate punishment.___________________________________________

Ohio man sentenced to death for Craigslist plot
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A self-styled street preacher was sentenced to death Thursday in the killings of three down-and-out men lured by bogus job offers posted on Craigslist.
The jury that convicted Richard Beasley of murder recommended that he face execution. The judge had the option of reducing the sentence to life in prison.
Beasley, 53, was convicted of teaming up with a teenager in 2011 to use the promise of jobs on a southeast Ohio farm to lure them into robberies. Three men were killed, and a fourth who was wounded testified at Beasley's trial.

Very much empathize with victims of violent crimes. And betting that if one of my family or friends were murdered, I’d want to hang them upside down over a fire ant mound but we need cooler heads to prevail. If one doesn't have skin in the game, and still wants vengeance and don’t see all the problems with capital punishment ,that have been rehashed and rehashed on this forum, ?!? Yeah but it really isn't that much pain. I'd prefer to have them ass raped in prison for the rest of their lives.
Solitary confinement for the rest of their lives... how about that?

A refreshing response. You maintained your position, but tempered it- thanks for the non-quarrelsome tone.
I will freely admit there are problems with the death penalty- in particular... the potential to execute a wrongfully convicted man (notice how I don't say woman... how often is it one of those?). I don't see the use of a death sentence appropriate for the regular, 'run-of-the-mill' murder that we see a ton of, every day, such as the drug dealer killing the buyer attempting to steal his drugs from him. Although I honestly could care less for the fortunes of anyone killing another person in cold blood.
For extreme cases and ones that leave no doubt, however... I really don't see the need to house some asshole in isolation with all the great benefits we can provide, given the setting, after they, say, have kidnapped and mutilated multiple children. Or... as in James Holmes' case- shoot up a movie theater with an assault rifle dressed up like the joker, and playing the drooling fool in court proceedings afterwards.
I don't think having such a mentality makes me simple or crude. Stripped to the core... a death sentence makes perfect sense for such scumbags given their crime. Why would a person convicted of raping and killing children share the same consequence as someone stealing cars?"My brain's a good brain!"0 -

The DP seems okay for this one. A man lures people into his game where he has a clear agenda to kill them. From the survivors' perspectives:
"Thank you again, God, for saving me from that beast," he said.
Debra Bruce, Pauley's twin sister, choked back tears as she told Beasley, "You took my best friend, confidant and my twin."
Bruce said she was sickened by references to Beasley as a preacher or chaplain. "No true man of God would take lives," she said.
"David's death has left a wound in my heart that will never completely heal."
It's easy to armchair philosophize about the dignity society would gain by turning the other cheek and practicing forgiveness instead of placing a murderer in the situation where he must stare death in the face and feel a remote semblance of the agony his victims may have felt before feeling the knife.
Exceptions aside... I think it would be much more painful trying to sleep at night wondering how many pen pals have been communicating with the killer of your loved one, if any of the pen pals seek to marry the demented freak, which books have engaged him, and what television shows have brought laughter to his life. No... for me... something more definitive and real closure would suffice. For the people above... it sounds as if they are okay with what has been handed down as well."My brain's a good brain!"0
