That book, while sort of 'fluff-y' was a great read, I loved it. The movie is beyond shitty when compared to the book. (Or, when compared to a piece of shit.)

    Just started this:

I'm about 125 pages into it so far. It's interesting but ... I dunno. It's been a while since I've read Crichton (like, 15 years), so maybe I've just forgotten how it writes ... but it comes across as a bit stilted and more telling rather than showing. But the premise is interesting, though, so I'm still digging it. Saw the previews for the movie when it originally came out; have no desire to see it.

Jim Butcher is a fairly bad@ss name.

About half way through Colin Bateman's Cycle Of Violence... A dark thriller with some comedy thrown in to offset the noir of the Irish troubles...

 I have to admit I am kind of new to the genre. Only read a couple of works, mostly by Andersen Prunty which I definitely enjoyed. But yeah, I was just browsing some titles by CMIII and he does seem to be an authority in Bizarro land. Might check some of those works out later. Your suggestion could be a start ;)

The Rampaging Fuckers of Everything on the Crazy Shitting Planet of the Vomit Atmosphere is a collection of three short novels by a master of satire. Mykle Hansen's subversive tales capture the smugness of mainstream culture. He thrusts his characters into absurd and humorous situations that reveal the defects in the modern social fabric. With the wit of Christopher Moore, the inventiveness of Terry Gilliam and the rudeness of South Park, Hansen's surreal fiction is ridiculously fun to read. Three Bizarro Novels: MONSTER COCKS: A poignant tragedy of penis enlargement gone horribly wrong. JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF AGNES CUDDLEBOTTOM: A gripping history of the first Starbucks in the anus of an 80-year-old prostitute. CRAZY SHITTING PLANET: A touching parable of love, friendship, and feces.

    From the Author:
"Even more awesome than all my other incredibly awesome books by me. And I'm not just saying it's awesome because I'm in love with myself. (Although of course I am, because I'm so obviously awesome.) I'm also saying it's awesome because I wrote it." - MYKLE HANSEN, famous author

    I-am-a-Chechen.jpg

    From the Back Cover:

I Am a Chechen! offers a lyrical fusion of exotic legends, stories and memories of Chechnya: a land of wondrous beauty, site of genocides past and present, and the author's ancestral home.

Haunted by memories of the land he deserted, Sadulaev tells the stories of those who stayed behind. He brings to life his friends - some now dead - revisiting their first loves, their passion for rock music, their quests for martyrdom. And he immerses us in the intoxicating beauty of his homeland's mountains, blossoms and the flocks of migratory swallows that fill its skies.

I Am a Chechen! is an intensely personal journey through the carnage of the war, exploring the pain, the challenge, and above all the meaning of being a Chechen and in German Sadulaev it announces the first compelling voice in fiction to emerge from the Chechen War.

German Sadulaev was born in 1973 and grew up in the Chechen village of Shali. At sixteen, before the start of the first Chechen war, he left to study law in St Petersburg. He lives there now. He is the author of five books, of which I Am a Chechen! is the second. Sadulaev's work makes highly uncomfortable reading for those in power in Russia and has unleashed heated debate there.
