Ok I didn't realize this was Lord of The Flies. So with my last grasp of the conch before getting knocked out with a rock: my beef is being called out as a hater in 200 point font for agreeing with someone on a thread about how they don't like Backspacer that I also don't like Backspacer.

Backspacer was the "hey I want to be popular again" album that flopped.

PS whatever happened to the 'jam' part?? It's like they are always rushing through their songs now just so they can fulfill an OCD need to play a diverse set list...

The better live shows to this day still had fewer songs, longer songs, more passionate songs.

Anyone else feel like they're just blurting it out fast and moving on to the next one...?

I actually agree with this part 100%

    Cheers

  • I liked backspacer when it came out, the songs are ok, its possibly their worst album, but thats ok too.

The PROBLEM is that backspacer would make sense if they were making an album every year. these light hearted 11 songs don't hold up waiting 3 years for it to come out and another 4+ before the next one. If pearl jam were releasing albums every year like neil young (for example) , when one is average or doesnt have as much replay value, it doesn't matter so much, you can just deal with it and wait for the next one.

I'm not saying pearl jam should be still making albums every year, but if they are going to leave it four years between recordings, and least have a bit more depth to them!

I'm not a huge Matt fan myself, but in fairness, the tempo issue isn't always his fault. Sometimes the songs start with a guitar part before the drums which sets the time. It's not all on Matt.

No I don't think it's Matt either.... I love Matt. I think a lot of the newer songs are written fast punky and that maybe be carrying over into the older repertoire.

but I do love 15,000 post threads of "pics that make EV cute!!!!"

Go to the soundgarden fanclub... That is fun. I post Ed pics to make friends Happy? What is your beef?

I have to finally say that I am sick of people knocking the ONE thread that is always positive and where the posters support each other and keep a happy tone! I am also tired of so much negativity about backspacer and Matt.... I love backspacer though I admit it doesn't get as much play as the others. It's still among my favorite ever albums. And Matt f*cking rocks! Stop the negativity and take a deep breath. Be positive and spread the love instead of the hate!

True. And just to clarify, I really like Matt with SG. I just don't think he's the best fit for PJ.

Now I want to go to Key West and eat some conch.
They are tasty snails. I'm not hating anyone... unless you are on my sheet list. and you aren't.

I need to accept that invite to my Aunt's wedding. I need some conch. (It's her 4 wedding, I don't think it will work out :o )

I like Johnny Guitar. It's about a guy pining for a girl that is in love with someone else. It happens to both sexes.

    I agree.

I thought jack irons was a great fit, too bad he couldn't keep the touring pace. That carpal tunnel can be a real B.

    ... tell me about it.

Guess this would be the wrong time for me to say that I think Chris Cornell is way cuter than EV...

I mean there's really no contest.

And his solo concerts are way better than EV's solo concerts too...

You are crazy ? I like Jack and Matt. I like everything. I like the punk stuff more. It's sad that Jack has that disease. I have no wrath. Matt is very capable . He rocks. Jack isn't bad and nor were the Dave's?
Soundgarden and Pearl Jam should tour together or close by. Save Matt from a headache

Backspacer is a great album. I personally don't think they have a bad album. I can listen to that album back to back just like any other pj album. I don't understand how anybody can say it doesn't have any depth to it. Have you listened to it? Unthought known, Speed of Sound, Amongst the Waves, the End and so on. There is plenty of depth to it. I do wish it was a little longer. But that would be my only complaint about it. Just my opinion

I can admit it took a few listens to get into Backspacer, but it has struck me well in the end. I had to take time with Binaural and Riot Act as well, and both of them are fantastic! I think Johnny Watson is a dud, but BS has several beautiful songs, that I have actually attached some tuff life experiences to and they have become bouys in a sea of life-shit.
I do agree with whoever earlier thought a few of the tracks would've served better on an EV solo album.
