Chicago Sheraton, O'Hare (4 stars). I bid $67 on Priceline and got it. It's in Rosemont and right on the blue line, runs 24hrs, easy access to downtown and Wrigley Field.

What's the parking situation? Sometimes they rip you for a parking charge as much as the friggin' room!

  • Got free parking at my hotel, so that will count for something, considering how expensive it is to park in the city. I am staying at the Hyatt down Wacker Drive. I am planning on just taking the train down to Wrigley Field.

I did the name your own price through Priceline in Chicago for the first weekend of March. The criteria I used was 4 stars in the loop. From reading the boards I started at $65/ night. After a couple of days increasing the bid about $11 each time I got the Hyatt regency for $97 + taxes/ night. I also booked 2 weeks before we stayed, so I dont know if that makes a difference.

my friend Lori score The Palmer House Hilton for 130 per night with Priceline
I just booked The Palmer House for $130 a night on Priceline using the Name Your Own Price deal. I've been trying all week to bid around $100 for a 4 star hotel downtown, but with the Phish announcement, I upped it & got it on the first price I put in. I don't know if prices will go down at this point, but maybe if you wait til closer to the date? I wasn't willing to take the chance and $130 seems like a decent deal in Chicago that weekend.

I gambled and did the 4 star option in River North - Magnificent Mile area for $130/night. Ended up with Hotel Felix, which I was hoping not to get, but whatevs. $600 for 4 nights, all taxes and everything. Also, will be taking the train from Flint, MI to Chicago (Union station right near my hotel), for about $100 round trip for my wife and I. So no driving, spending money on gas or parking, can stand up and walk around, or go to the bathroom if I need to, and it takes about 5 hours, same as driving would. I think there might even be a bar on the train to get cocktails. We'll use the CTA 3 day pass to get around to the tourist attractions.

Now if I just had tickets for the concert, the trip would be perfect :(

I booked the Travelodge yesterday through Priceline's express deals for Wednesday - Saturday for $59/night. 1 star in Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park. Saved 50% off the $120 regular price. Looks like it went up to $62 today.

I decided to go the suburb route and went out to Naperville for $47 a night at a Springhill Suite. I figured I'll just drive to the train station and then ride into the loop.

    wow....

no offense, but that is the worst plan ever. naperville????? travel lodge downtown would have been a much better choice. naperville is like an hour's ride on the train. last train leaves at 12:40 don't miss it. that's a 60 cab ride.

It's actually in Warrenville right by the interstate. I thought I could drive and park at the furthest western station for the Blue Line (Oak Park) for $5. How far is it to take the blue into the loop and then the red up to Wrigleyville? Isn't the blue and red both 24hr?

forrest park is the furthest west.

I knew it'd be a little more time and trouble, but it'll save me close to $100 a night.....family on a budget, you know. :D Thanks, though. I appreciate a local's input.

Will you be traveling alone after the show? That stretch of the Blue line is not the safest at night, and when you get off the train stay NORTH of the expressway. This will not be an easy commute for you after this show. You should try to find something closer to the Metra out by Ohare. Seriously, your gonna add some serious time to your evening with this route.....

Would you suggest staying in Rosemount/O'Hare versus out west? I was just trying to stay somewhere around the blue routes.

    i would.

if you don't mind cheap...i'd do the travel lodge in the loop...somebody posted the scored it for 57ish. plus fee's etc. only issue then is parking, and if one night...pfft...big whoop.

Totally understand budgets, but with lots of time left I would suggest those thinking western suburbs and O'Hare to reconsider. If you walk out of the stadium after the show it will probably take 45 min to an hour to get downtown, a good chunk of that waiting for trains as the Addison stop will be overloaded. Once you're downtown, a 10 minute walk to the Blue line, and 5-15 minutes to wait for the train. Once on the Blue its another 45 minutes to O'Hare. Absolute minimum 2 hours, and probably not a very fun 2 hours.

Most of all, you're visiting an amazing city, and while our suburbs (I'm sure) are fine and dandy like sour candy, there's so much to see in Chicago in the summer.

Or come stay with me, I close on a 3 BR 3 BA condo in Lincoln Square on May 31.
