first thing i did today was ask my coworker if the schools were closed. her defense of the situation was...do you really want somebody driving your kid on a bus. and the roads out by her (pine gree whatever the fuck it is) are oh so bad when it snows.

bunch of pussies. i honestly believe, my school would have been open for this shit.
and quite frankly, i'd rather be on a bus than in her car with the tires she has.81 is now off the air0 -

Truth- the schools in this city NEVER closed for school when I was a student! Our school calendars are now created with two extra days built in for snow days. My view has become, if they are going to make the calendar that way, we might as well use the days.0 -

That's a great book title. I may have to use that. Don't worry...I'll give you credit.
Even when I was in school 10-15 years ago in the suburbs, we wouldn't get snow days for this shit. What a bunch of pussies!0 -
Teachers have the best snow days. They can't really do any work. What are they going to do? Invite the kids over to the house for class.
Technology is ruining snow days for everyone else. With laptops, the internet, iphones, Blackberries, etc I would still need to work from home even if the office was closed.
When we had the blizzard a couple years ago, I spent the day on conference calls and e-mail. Couldn't even take a nap or watch a Law & Order marathon.0 -

Total fact. Everyone is emailing everyone today, and it's getting ridiculous. Can't I have just another 30 minutes to finish my book?!"Where's KW?"

Technology has ruined it for the teachers too. I've spent the morning writing IEPs, billing for Medicaid, looking up my students current grades and making "missing work" lists for them to do, answering emails, responding to a state DPI mandatory survey on alternate assessments given this year. Snow days have become "catch up on paperwork" days.0 -

They're ruining sick days too. My boss looooves to call and email me when I'm sick. And actually sick. Oh! Also when I'm on vacation. In fact, I was told by my executive director that Sunday nights should be awful for me and that I should have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach because I have to work the next day. Also. That I should be available to him at all times, 24-7 no matter what.

damn....
I was on the beach in Mexico once, and my boss called looking for a 12 character password for one of our systems.. I have no idea how I recited it from memory. Perhaps I am an alcohol savant.
Good luck on the new gig.0 -

Good luck on the new gig.Alcohol savant, I'm going to use that! Not about me of course, because that would just not be true.
