1992 is what I would of said, without watching, but Mike McCready is so much better on the 2009 video, it has to be 2009, and really I don't even think it is close, that is funny the people who answer without watching, sort of like the people who respond to a thread without reading it

Mike is 22 year now perfect..
2011-2012 was even better than 09..

after watching more than 470 full shows bootlegs dvd,yes 92 is better by 1 million miles than 09

yes,no need to watch it..im pretty sure i watched them already several times

pick one of them random..mtw unplugged,Pinkpop,Lawrence,Miani ,Alpine Valley,Orlando ,Milan,Jones Beach,Rotterdam...etc..from 92..with your best of 09...its easy to see it..

so respect our opinion, like it or not..

    so,you asked..i answer..92 with out watching..

the question was which version is better, not which year were they a better band, and that does require watching both versions

  • Which is better.. the beers you drank underage at a house party where u scored a girl for the first time or a fine wine chilling on the penthouse floor of a buddys apt with ur wife and friends?

You cant compare them. They both have their place in the river of time. Each unique. Each special for their own reasons.

nope I was asking which of these two versions are better, the other versions aren't part of the question, very simply these two performances of this same song, which one is better?

I really miss the young energy and "new-ness" of the Pink Pop version but I just love how in sync they are as a band in the '09 version. I like how they've matured and they all just have such raw talent. McMelty definitely fucking kills it in '09! It's awesome how him and Stone just feed off of each other. Nothing against the drummers before him but there's just something about Matt that kicks it up a notch, too. And Jeff, he just kicks ass then and now! Best bassist, in my book. It's actually nice to see Ed more calm in the '09 version - not so overwhelmed by the hype of it all. I'm going with '09 this time around. :)

 you actually watched both videos, had an opinion of each then based upon each made you feel, you gave a well thought out opinion, just not sure how you can watch the 2009 version and not only think it is better than the 1992 video, I think it would be hard to find 5 Pearl Jam videos for a single song that are better than that one, I can't think of anything they could of done better, the whole band nailed it I thought

I have seen both... And I think it is pretty hard to compare a song being played in front of 50,000 people vs. a song being played in front of 500 people in essentially a TV studio...

When you compare the ACL festival version of RM with Ben Harper to the ACL studio version it isn't even close, mostly because of the energy

There's a lot of stipulations when answering this question....i would say compare pink pop to something of equal size....like soldier field in 95 or if they play it at wrigley this summer. it likes asking, which is better, porch at pinkpop in 92 or the unplugged version in 92. two entirely different feelings. but to answer the question, i would have to say the 92 version is much better.

my go to porch is either holmdel 03 or e rutherford night 2, 06...the jams are completely amazing. mikey and stone are just on fire!
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

not the question being asked, which of these two videos do you like better, seriously, not asking which era you like better, do you like the first video better or the second video

it is my question, somebody else can start a thread what is you favorite version of porch, just wanted to get other people's perspective on which of these videos they like better, I can't begrudge someone who watches both and likes the 92 version better, I like the 2009 version better because we never get to see that good of camera work so focused on Mike, Mike gets right up next to the camera during most of the solo stuff and you really get a chance to feel his guitar work, and even though it is a television studio essentially, they were completely jacked up for that show because of all the history at ACL

I agree with the beginning of this post how energy of the crowd affects the way the boys play a song. I feel that musically in 2009 there is no comparison they are drastically better musicians, eds voice is better, stone is more fluid, mike is well mike is like a god on guitar, Jeff is bad ass and arguably one of the best drummers of this generation is on the kit. 92 has a raw feel of pure energy. Both videos lend a different perspective
Of band we all love. I for one googled different versions of porch at large shows since reading this and I would like to point out bonnaroo 08 as a good crowd comparison to pink pop. Anyways. Bravo on the post.

If you're asking which videos we like more, then the Pinkpop 92 Porch is probably the most iconic single performance that was ever pro-shot of the band. He jumps off a freakin' camera operator into a sea of over 50,000 people.

If you were blind listening to Pearl Jam between 92 vs. their current lineup, there is no question which band is tighter and more mature as musicians.

My question is how are you getting upset that people are answering your question that will ultimately prove nothing? There wasn't even a question stated in the first post.
