Should the 10C join forces with Thirdman Records

I am learning more about Third Man Records and how their Vault thing works and thought it would be cool if PJ could team up with them to put their annual release through them or additional releases through them.

It looks like Jack White is doing some cool things with vinyl. I love the liquid album.

So what do you think? Would you pay more for a quarterly release when they look like this?

Just a thought.

I belong to the Vault and LOVE it..its a lot more expensive $60 a quarter = $240 a year...but you are given limited vinyl each quarter.

You usually get an LP, 45, and another bonus item.

I would easily pay $75 a quarter if I knew I was getting limited PJ Vinyl each quarter.

I'm thinking about joining, but I'm not the biggest Jack White fan. I have much respect for him and think his Vault idea is fabulous. It would be a no brainer for me if PJ did it.

I might have to join just to get the cool vinyl. I saw where he put a smaller record inside a larger record and the person had to break the larger record to listen to the smaller record. Or something crazy like that.

I just love the fact that he says he's not making money off by doing this and he's just doing it for the love of vinyl and the love of music. You have to respect that.

Yea..its called a Double Decker and its cool as hell. You can pop open the larger LP, and the 45 is inside.

I wanted to join the vault since forever, I wrote to them many, many times, but they don't reply to me, there's nothing in the terms and conditions stating that the vault is only for US citizens, I don't know if there any vault members in other countries. I think that not replying is a "polite" way to say "we do not ship to your country, Javier".

Regarding the OP, my answer is NO. In fact, Ten Club could use some of the TMR treatment, but TMR don't need PJ, and the other way round.

And if you are thrilled about Liquid Filled Sixteen Saltines Record http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RETuB67sTKI or the Freedom at 21 Flexi Balloon Launch, what would you think about this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... aaQebrwfkU

    I'm joining.

That was for RSD 2011 and it's no longer available, or you can got to the internet and pay over 500 to get it... one of those flexi 7" sold for 4K on the bay during the following days of the lauch... I lost track on the liquid vinyl, but they were sold at 100 bucks on RSD 2012...

They have vault members all over europe. I would join. They ship their vault releases internationally first, before they ship any domestic shipments. I guess they do that so it doesnt take forever for international orders to arrive.

I live outside Nashville, so Third Man and Grimeys are my local record stores...i consider my self very lucky. :D

I'm not into flipping things or paying a boatload of money for something. I'm more into it because Third Man Records continue to think outside the box and push the limits.

Although I don't know if I could break a record to get access to another record. That's some crazy mind games right there.

I mean can you imagine if PJ reissued a benaroya vinyl with a hidden song on the inside and the only way you could hear it is if you ruined your Benaroya record. LOL

Honestly, my first reaction to that was " no! Don't fuck with third man records!" ... I think I'll stand by that reaction. Third man doesn't need 10c - it's awesome just the way it is. Pearl Jam wants so much control over its releases now (which is great!), so third man doesn't need them getting their hands in there doing their own thing. I think monkeywrench is working for PJ, and they don't need third man any more than thirdman needs them. IMHO.

When I saw that record inside a record, I just :fp: :fp:
So silly. And that liquid filled one... they had a serious leakage problem apparently. Some even leaked all over people's turntables. I saw one video where some sucker thought it was awesome, but actually had to use glue on it before each play or else it would leak.

I agree. I just wish 10C and Monkeywrench would release more vinyl to 10C members only than just the Christmas single. Have us pay a little more and give us some really cool stuff on vinyl. For example 'Unplugged'

Maybe I should change my original question as to whether the 10C could learn some things from Third Man Records.

I just think 10C could do a better job of thinking outside the box and pushing the limits of what you could do with a fan club and a piece of vinyl.

Again I think no, because this would just lead to more gimmicks, which is the one thing I don't like about thirdman. It would just create more of this flipping bullshit, and I just don't see the point. Maybe I'm old school, but I don't think they need any more than really good sounding black vinyl with nice but simple packaging - just more of it.

I'm not sure Pearl Jam and PJ member side projects put out enough studio recorded work these days to warrant a vault club. I suppose if live recording were included but I don't know if that would draw enough subscribers to make a vault club feasible.

As for vinyl- YES! I wish like crazy that the entire PJ catalog were available on vinyl- I mean other that the $150 to $300 copies available on eBay and a few other sources. The fact that I can't find affordable copies of No Code, Riot Act, Binaural, Lost Dogs, and Pearl Jam (I have most of the others) on vinyl drives me to distraction sometimes!

As for the liquid filled vinyl or record within a record- those seem interesting to me as art projects but personally- good old good quality vinyl records would spin just fine for me.

Yes, long live vinyl and long live analog!
