You know, there have been several shows on this tour so far that haven't sold out. That is not an excuse. Go on ticketbastard right now and pull tickets for the remaining shows.

Play some smaller venues then, or less dates.

I thought that too, but it is possible they would lose money that way (it costs more to pay the crew and truck in all their shit than a 7,000-seat show in Birmingham, Alabama or something would produce, possibly).

but, yeah, it would be cool if they would do it.

Thats awesome that they might finally get down there. Also, doing it like this, causing all the anticipation from southerners might cause more people to buy tickets, and possibly sell out shows. Especially if they do fewer southern shows then usual.

Plus you know there will be a lot of traveling northerners dying to see PJ again after several months.

OK, you Siouthern Fans who prematurely swore off the band and told them to go "F" themselves.. Make sure you follow through and don't buy tickets.... Yeah right, you phonies:>) They will buy tickets and hopefully feel like children for their outbursts.

Man, if they played Granada Theater in Dallas that would be sweeeettttt if we are talking small venues. I would be cool with them playing Smirnoff and Woodlands in Houston too. Granada only holds like 3000 people- but shit, Bob Dylan played it in 2003 so who knows! I knew they would be coming here. :D

So what cities do you guys predict they will hit?

I'm thinking Nashville at the Starwood Ampitheatre of course ;)

    And:
    Dallas
    Houston
    New Orleans
    Baton Rouge
    Birmingham
    Atlanta
2 or 3 times in Florida

    Where else?

possibly somewhere in the western half of the midwest, but god knows where.

EDIT: And I would probably cross Baton Rouge and Birmingham off that list.

  • If this happens, I am glad for those of you who waited nicely and didn't kick and scream like little kids.

My question though, is what is the big deal about selling out? I'm sure the band wants to make as much money as it can, but is it really a logistical problem to play a few shows in the south for crowds of like 11000? Most bands draw less than that and still tour. I've seen lots of bigger acts---The Who, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and a few others who didn't fill up the place and they didn't stop touring even a little.

And its not like the crowds are any worse if there are a few empty seats. I'd say Pittsburgh was only 85% full and the place was nuts!

Does anyone else get tired of the ignorant jokes about the south? That shit really gets old. I have been all over this country and there isn't much difference between Illinois and Alabama or Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
I hate being mean, but saying this kind of crap is a sign of ignorance.

Maybe if they dont sell as much as they'd like to taking such a detour the expense would outweight the revenue?
I dont know I'm just guessing. I know nothing about touring.

yeah makes sense to me. why lug around all that gear to come out being in the red? and gas funds.......gawd.

but with that being said.... an idea is to downsize that gear and staff and play smaller venues in the south. and fewer dates.

sign me up for 2 tickets in NC boys! (if you make it there)

my sister and I walked down to this little mom and pap breakfast joint earlier. there weren't many people inside. maybe 8 people. So i see a couple guys walk in out of the corner of my eye. I nonchalantly glanced over. Then i did a double take. it was stone.

He was with another guy i recognized. One of the crew guys. later i found out it was smitty. they were just a few tables away and figured i would just say "hey stone". I thought about it more and thought i had chance to chat with him, but i didn't want to make a scene inside. plus, i could tell nobody else recognized him. So Lisa and I just went about our usual business. Stone and smitty finisded their meals the same time we did. We walked out a few minutes before them so we waited outside.. just standing around, not making it obvious.

Stone walks out. I let him walk about 10 feet before i approached him

    me: hey stone?

(stone turns around, nods, and walks towards me

me: hey, i just wanted to say hi. my name is eugene and this is my sister, lisa. we just flew in for the show tomorrow

    (we shake hands)

stone: oh, awesome. where'd ya come from?
    me: florida
stone: hah, we were actually just talking about florida.
    me: oh yeah?
stone: yeah, just wondering when we're gonna get down there
me: haha..yeah, a lot of people have been wondering about that
stone: yeah (rubs chin)..ya know all of the southern shows don't sell out and the south is just a huge detour. (does some kind of detour motion with his hands) but, we are gonna work something out and get down there
    me: so ya guys excited?
stone: yeah man, petty. it's been awesome
    stone: are you guys excited?
me: oh yeah.......hey, mind if we get a quick picture
stone: yeah, that's cool. let smitty take it

    (takes picture)

me: well, it was nice to meet ya. thanks
stone: you too, enjoy the show
    me: thanks you too

then they walked into a radio station

the picture was taken with my sister's camera and she doesn't have the cord, so i took a picture of the picture with my camera

    Nice story...gave me little shivers!
Saw the photo too...smile people, you are with the riff-miester!
