Man, if they played Granada Theater in Dallas that would be sweeeettttt if we are talking small venues. I would be cool with them playing Smirnoff and Woodlands in Houston too. Granada only holds like 3000 people- but shit, Bob Dylan played it in 2003 so who knows! I knew they would be coming here.
If this happens, I am glad for those of you who waited nicely and didn't kick and scream like little kids.
My question though, is what is the big deal about selling out? I'm sure the band wants to make as much money as it can, but is it really a logistical problem to play a few shows in the south for crowds of like 11000? Most bands draw less than that and still tour. I've seen lots of bigger acts---The Who, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and a few others who didn't fill up the place and they didn't stop touring even a little.
And its not like the crowds are any worse if there are a few empty seats. I'd say Pittsburgh was only 85% full and the place was nuts!
I love my female wife...

Does anyone else get tired of the ignorant jokes about the south? That shit really gets old. I have been all over this country and there isn't much difference between Illinois and Alabama or Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Maybe if they dont sell as much as they'd like to taking such a detour the expense would outweight the revenue?
I dont know I'm just guessing. I know nothing about touring.

yeah makes sense to me. why lug around all that gear to come out being in the red? and gas funds.......gawd.
but with that being said.... an idea is to downsize that gear and staff and play smaller venues in the south. and fewer dates.

my sister and I walked down to this little mom and pap breakfast joint earlier. there weren't many people inside. maybe 8 people. So i see a couple guys walk in out of the corner of my eye. I nonchalantly glanced over. Then i did a double take. it was stone.
He was with another guy i recognized. One of the crew guys. later i found out it was smitty. they were just a few tables away and figured i would just say "hey stone". I thought about it more and thought i had chance to chat with him, but i didn't want to make a scene inside. plus, i could tell nobody else recognized him. So Lisa and I just went about our usual business. Stone and smitty finisded their meals the same time we did. We walked out a few minutes before them so we waited outside.. just standing around, not making it obvious.
Stone walks out. I let him walk about 10 feet before i approached him
me: hey stone?
(stone turns around, nods, and walks towards me
me: hey, i just wanted to say hi. my name is eugene and this is my sister, lisa. we just flew in for the show tomorrow
(we shake hands)
stone: oh, awesome. where'd ya come from?
me: florida
stone: hah, we were actually just talking about florida.
me: oh yeah?
stone: yeah, just wondering when we're gonna get down there
me: haha..yeah, a lot of people have been wondering about that
stone: yeah (rubs chin)..ya know all of the southern shows don't sell out and the south is just a huge detour. (does some kind of detour motion with his hands) but, we are gonna work something out and get down there
me: so ya guys excited?
stone: yeah man, petty. it's been awesome
stone: are you guys excited?
me: oh yeah.......hey, mind if we get a quick picture
stone: yeah, that's cool. let smitty take it
(takes picture)
me: well, it was nice to meet ya. thanks
stone: you too, enjoy the show
me: thanks you too
then they walked into a radio station
the picture was taken with my sister's camera and she doesn't have the cord, so i took a picture of the picture with my camera
Nice story...gave me little shivers!

i'm not gonna hold my breath about this. if what stone said is true, great, i'll get to see my fav band again. HOWEVER, his attitude is really annoying and subtley condescending in a VERY northwest sorta way. i mean, yeah pj has earned the right to call their own shots, but to basically paint the impression that it's an inconvenience to play the South is pretty irritating. maybe the fanbase is less concentrated down here, maybe not, but WHO FREAKING CARES!?! YOU'RE IN ONE OF THE BIGGEST ROCK BANDS IN THE WORLD, SO GO PLAY SOME FUCKING SHOWS, TAKE SOME TIME OFF TO DO WHATEVER, THEN BOOT UP AND GO PLAY SOME MORE FUCKING SHOWS! using an excuse like 'we don't sell out shows much down there' in one way suggests that it only works out if one in fact does sell out, thus making pj/whoever else the max amount of $$. do i think that is the main concern of the band? hell no i don't, but whatever. it's all hearsay to me anyway, but it's pretty easy to know where they stand with most of the 'red' states. IF the band does come down here any time soon, maybe a decent suggestion would be to pick some venues that they know will have a good chance of selling out, and play more than one nite there. just trying to throw out some sort of constructive thinking, bad idea or not...
I've been to 3 St Louis shows and they always sell-out. I saw them in Memphis as well for the Binaural tour think that was a sell-out as well. c'mon guys we support you here.
Hi, I've been a Ten Club member for a few years now, and I love the
club and what you do with tickets and merchandise.
As a resident of Georgia, I was disappointed to learn that Pearl Jam
has decided to end its "World" Tour with a second show in
Honolulu. While yes, they have covered an extensive part of the
world in the past year and a half (much of the US, Canada, Europe,
Australia, South America), they have left a few large holes, primarily
in the Southeastern United States. In March, I eagerly resubscribed
to the Ten Club in anticipation of buying several tickets to southern
shows and planning a summer road trip before my sophomore year
of college began. After the first leg was announced, I decided not to
buy tickets, thinking "Surely Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, or some
other city will be added to Leg Two." Unfortunately, that day never
came. Another US leg, a European leg, an Australian leg, and finally
two shows in Hawaii were announced, along with the "End of Pearl
Jam's 2006 World Tour." I read Stone say on an internet chat about
carbon emissions that the band was having issues because they
cannot sell out the South. Several shows did not sell out on this tour,
including shows at the LA Forum, parts of the three night stand in
San Francisco, and several European shows.
I am not mad at the band, the Ten Club, or even the event planners. I
am not as cynical as some of my fellow southern Pearl Jam fans
who believe that Pearl Jam is skipping the South because it voted
for Bush in 2004. I simply think that someone, somehow, should
explain why a large part of the US was left off a world tour in which
Honolulu, a city of less than 400,000 people, got two shows. And
why wasn't this information available before many of us "made sure
to re-up our 10C memberships" before the dates were announced?
I would love to be able to see my favorite band, with 10C seats, and
see songs from the new album, which I believe is one of their best.
But above all, I'd like to know why they felt that the South (and also
the United Kingdom, who also did not receive a proper tour)
somehow does not belong on a world tour.
