Look on Live Nation or Ticketmaster, and you will see it's filthy with "Evening withs."
All it usually is is an indicator of no opener. For example, The Black Crowes entire Spring tour is An evening with. And, yes, every show will be special. But, they aren't playing 15 hours every night.
It doesn't mean it won't be a special set, but isn't London also "Evening with?" The terminology has nothing to do with what the show will be like other than to indicate - there's no opening band.
If anything, the "traditionalists" should be pissed that PJ is using any sort of Concert convention that others have used before and aren't "sticking it to the man!" still.
So PJ starting an hour or so earlier than usual does not mean the show will be longer?
No opening band means more PJ unless my math is wrong.

No opening band does not mean they are coming on earlier. They may in fact come on earlier, especially since Wrigley has more of a curfew issue with where it's situated.
I could definitely see a solid 3 hour show from them here. But, again, that has nothing to do with the evening with thing. And if you still believe that, wouldn't the London show be the pick of the litter considering its a smaller venue with I'm sure better acoustics?
But, feel free to get your hopes up. Not sure why folks need to build this up so. It will be a fantastic show. But, hoping Elvis shows up in the middle of an 18 hour set filled with every rarity and no Evenflow might get your feelings hurt in the end. That's all I'm trying to help you avoid.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -

200% my thoughts as well..
“We are excited to announce two special Pearl Jam live performances to take place in London, Ontario and at Chicago’s Wrigley Field in July, 2013. Both evenings will be An Evening with Pearl Jam. There will not be an opening band for either performance date,” Pearl Jam announced on its pearljam.com website.
So, why isn't the Ontario show getting the same hype? Quite frankly, if its rarities you're looking for, that's the place it's going to happen. Not sure why the Evening With means something different for London than Chicago (and just about every other band that has done the SAME EXACT thing for the last 20 years).
I can't imagine what an acoustic set at Wrigley would sound like.
It's a baseball park that wasn't even well designed for THAT function. Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0 -
I think we are getting NAIS. Gut feeling.___________________________________________

They have more time to play, on a Friday night (less curfew issues) and that makes it more exciting than a usual show. These shows have the potential to be amongst the longest. You are right about London being the pick.
The fans expectations will never be satisfied no matter the venue, show length, set list or gig title. After many years, Ive learned to not have any expectations.

Concert Day Highlights:
• Gates will open at 5:30pm.
• Performance begins at approximately 7:30pm and will end at approximately 11:30 pm
This was the official notice for the Bruce shows. I would expect the same for PJ.0 -
