Annual Evaluation

I just cut and paste what I wrote in last year's self-evaluation.
The person who gets my boss's position never lasts more than a year anyway (which is why I have refused that promotion in the past).I SAW PEARL JAM0 -

I'm not entirely sure what that above means, but I find it funny because 'pissa' in Finnish means 'pee'. :P
Back on topic: I'm meeting with the headmistress this Friday, to talk about how things have been going for me. (I started this job back in August.) Shouldn't be heavy stuff, but I'm still a little nervous because the headmistress is an intimidating lady."Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0 -
Getting a decent bonus this year. My segment did really well this year but the company only did ok. I'm not on commissions but get a sweet salary plus Overtime Pay. Surprising considering what my annual base salary is.0

we have to do a self-evaluation that is like a freaking book...complete with an index and attachments...usually well over 100 pages in the end. It gets passed to my director who then regurgitates a letter that's a synopsis of what I've done...then passed on to the Dean, the VP and the President...all regurgitating what the person before them has said. The only person who actually reads it is my director...and then they'll decide if we can stay employed or not, but there aren't any merit raises. This year I'm going to submit the final copy in Polish and see if anyone actually pays attention

I've always felt that reviews should contain no surprises - if you're honest with yourself and if your boss communicates with you constructively throughout the year, the only things left to wonder about are goals - if any - and potential raise/bonus.0

You speak Polish? Seems like that's a unique job skill that should get you a bigger salary.0 -

This.
That's advice that I got early on, and I held myself to that when I was writing evaluations for my direct reports. (I had 150 direct reports when I was a nurse manager. Which is complete insanity.) An annual eval that contains a surprise, pleasant or unpleasant, means the manager has failed to communicate effectively.
And, for those who don't know, "Wicked Pissa" is a uniquely New England term. It might be specific to eastern Massachusetts. Or confined to Metro Revere. Anyway, it roughly translates to "really good."
When I was growing up, my parents tolerated "wicked" but "pissa" was absolutely, positively verboten.15 years of sharks 06/30/08 (MA), 05/17/10 (Boston), 09/03/11 (Alpine Valley), 09/04/11 (Alpine Valley), 09/30/12 (Missoula), 07/19/13 (Wrigley), 10/15/13 (Worcester), 10/16/13 (Worcester), 10/25/13 (Hartford), 12/4/13 (Vancouver), 12/6/13 (Seattle), 6/26/14 (Berlin), 6/28/14 (Stockholm), 10/16/14 (Detroit)0 -

Personal goals... huh. That's pretty cool, actually.0 -
My annual eval is happening in March. The whole process is very corporate and dumb.
That said, I'm hoping for at least 10-12% increase in salary. It get my bonus at the same time. I'm at a higher level now so it should be 2x of what I got last year!
Who wants to go to Vegas with me?!?

We have to take the Myers-Briggs as part of the process this year. I wonder how the results of that test will be used.0
