    In the process of finishing our 'burrough-burrow' (for short, I call it my burro, named after my burro ;) )
    It's a 34x34 underground, well living roof with 2 buried sides but open walk-out patio on east & west sides.
    Half is my woodshop, the other half is a living quarter. Hoping to move in by spring. I'll let ya know next time this year if I killed my spouse!

    If I had a good garden and a nice underground like cave to store the food for the winter, I'd have no problem in a place like that.

    My first house was 690 square feet. I loved it, it was a bit small and cramped, but it was just me living there. But since the place was so small, I really made sure the backyard was awesome by planting great foliage, golf grass, a rose garden, and a little winding rock path. I spent all my time out there in the yard.

    Something will have to give in your house, more than likely storage/appliances, etc.. So what will happen is you will have to start making more and more trips to the grocery because you don't have room to store food, or you have to drive to the laundromat, because you don't have room for a washer and dryer, (I could go on and on)
    So what will happen next is they will start construction places like these close to your neighborhood (gyms, receptions type places to hold multiple parties, laundromat) so that its conveinent, and next thing you know your small houses will be surrounded by stores/plazas/building to offset what you don't have in your house...

    Thats an interesting thought on the idea Blockhead.

    yeah, I gotta say it's because of all the space surrounding my burro which makes me eager to have less 7 spend less time inside, more outside.

    When i had a roomate living in my spare bedroom... I was really glad there were two bathrooms... and his was far away from where I slept. I was glad it had a door and a fan because his eating habit were not the best. I swore, the guy must have been eating the cat food or something because, man... he could stink up the place.

    Nice! I love the idea of an underground house for a number of reason. I'm told the temperature stays much more stable year round- easier to heat, easier to cool, and I love the idea of having the earth sound insulation as well for the quiet it would afford when I need it.

    In Hong Kong it is a fact of life. Small apartments in a vertical city, but I was never opposed to it. Moving out of our huge house and geeting rid of all the extra stuff makes life cheaper and less high-maintanence.

    and having no reason to own a car in a city with great transportation has also been a huge benefit in cost and maintanence...

    I think that we fill the space we have... How many of us have gone from a small apt to a bigger apt or house, and in not time, you have stuff everywhere?

    Our house is about 1500 sq ft and it's my wife and I, and two small kids. It's a good size for us, and I wouldn't want much bigger. We live in suburbia, and the only thing that I would really change, is that we want some land. Not 100 acres, but like 5-10 acres where we have room to do stuff outside and not have another house 15 feet from ours.

    We tent camp, an are looking to get a small trailer, so the idea of living in a small space isn't bad, but in the northeast, I think the winter would be tough. You really couldn't have people over for dinner or have a birthday party for the kids, etc. In the summer that is easy, but for half the year, you'd either have to live an isolated life, or spend a lot of time away from home.

    i have no foggy idea how large/small my place is; i live in a one bedroom apartment & i live alone. sometimes i get visitors.

    i want a log home out in the sticks. i require space. i need a writing/art studio w/ a lot of windows & skylights. i require a fireplace/woodstove. i require a back porch & or a front porch. i require a nice kitchen but does not need to have two of everything or than a double sink. i require a nice sized restroom w/ a stone cave like shower area w/ skylights above it & ferns growing up there above the shower.

    i have zero kids but kids are awesome & i have many neices & nephews & stuff. they deserve a bedroom when visiting uncle a-hole. i deserve a swimming pool, half indoor & half outdoor & with rock mounded up with waterfalls up the ass.

    i need a yard for gardening, growing flowers & trees. i will erect a tent out back that is an all season canvas tent that has a wood stove for cooking & heating.

    i need a kitchen with a brick wood fired oven

    what the fuck is taking the construction workers & carpenters so damn long?

    I've lived in something smaller than the tiny house pictured at the beginning of this thread before and to be honest, I couldn't do it again. In that place, I couldn't stand up all the way and today my knees and back would give out. Beisdes, my wife likes to spread out a bit. My personal space (i.e. ",man cave") in the house in the smallest by far and I'm quite happy with that. Besides, like my nephew likes to say, "Keep the woman happy." :lol:
