Newcastle, Australia - Help please!

Hi guys, I'm from Wales and I'm going travelling in November for 8 months. After a brief holiday in Hong Kong, I arrive in Sydney at 8.30am on the morning of November 19th. I've just managed to get tickets for the Newcastle gig that night so my first night in Australia is going to be spent at a PJ gig! (my fifth of the year after the Astoria, Leeds, Reading and Barcelona - my own PJ world tour!)
Can anyone Down Under give me some idea as to the best way to get from Sydney to Newcastle and also roughly how long it'll take and how much is it likely to cost me?
