The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

So looking for hotels (wanting to stay downtown - staying 4 days to check out Chicago if I go). Where is the best place to be to be in the city centre for a tourist? I keep seeing references to "the loop (west? south?)" and the mag mile. Is this the area I'd want to be? Grant Park area? Found a cheap (shitty) place right near there... Thx!Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

the loop is mostly corporate head quarters. the art muesum is down there. mag mile is just north of the loop on michigan. lots of shopping, some eatieries. i'd stay mag mile/water tower/river north if i was a tourist.
you can easily hop on the 'L' and take that to wrigley, or to the art muesum81 is now off the air0 -

the loop is mostly businesses, so it can get pretty quiet in that area on the weekends. if you do stay in the loop, stay at a hotel on either wacker drive (renaissance hotel), or state street (wit hotel).
mag mile/river north is probably your best bet. most "tourist" like things for you to do. bars, restaurants, shopping, river walk, navy pier, easy access to mass transit, etc.
check out the marriott on michigan ave or the courtyard marriott on hubbard street, both VERY centrally located and nice hotels (the courtyard just got a new lobby renovation, and the mag mile is a huge property in prime location).0 -
