I hope things continue to improve for all of you. What a nightmare this has been.

Mr. Unlost is back in Rockaway with FEMA, no estimated date of return.

I'm at medical informatics conference in Chicago, and the hurricane and disaster management has been a hot topic. So much empathy for the folks who were affected...

If there is anyone on here from Long Island that's struggling, whether it's no power, no food, no gas or something as simple as no cable, please PM me. I have power, food and cable. I'm more than happy to let you take a hot shower, hot meal, charging any electronics you need charged, running you to the store to get some food, giving you some cash if you need it (might not be a lot, but at least something). You can also use my washer and dryer. Or if anyone knows someone that can't get on these boards, let them know. Please do not hesitate to ask.

the daily news showed queens and 100 homes burned to the ground. that was just heartbreaking to see. never heard it on our news.
gas lines here are insane. State cops directing traffic and and people asking me where there are more stations. Here's a hint, if you don't see a line, they don't have any gas :fp:
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

if anyone takes you up on this i'd be willing to kick in some cash to help out. or if anyone else needs certain supplies or something. i'd much rather give directly to somone in need at this point. i only know a few people near the directly affected areas and all of those are doing ok. i know the Red Cross is trying to do as much as they can but i feel like i haven't heard any specific direct needs that people might need other than gas.

We only lost power over night.

As I went to get gas yesterday here in MD, it was a beautiful day and I realized how fortunate I am to be able to pull up to the pump and gas up my car and be home in 5 minutes and look what the people in LI or NJ are experiencing. I'm realizing now that I'm older and there's been emergencies....how much I took for granted all my life. The food just doesn't get there on the shelf by itself, someone has to drive it there. It takes precious electricity to run that gas pump.

You all are very much in my thoughts and prayers :)

I had never saw anything like that when I saw the gas lines this weekend. I was coming back on the local bus at about 2 A.M. Saturday morning and at first I thought when I saw a few cars idling it was an accident and then I realized what it was and that's when it really hit me.

  • I read this morning that a NY man was arrested in CT because he was filling up 30 5gal buckets w/ gas to take back to NY with him. Article said they opened the back of his van and the containers were starting to expand. They arrested him for not using DOT approved gas containers, which is against CT state law.

Posting the link, but I dont like the article title "New York man arrested after hoarding gas at Connecticut station". Hoarding is not the right word to use imo, due to the circumstances...

    http://www.wfsb.com/story/20000043/pd-new-york-man-arrested-after-hoarding-gas-at-connecticut-station

Anyways... If your coming from out of state to get gas... be smart... get real gas containers. That guy could have killed himself and put others in danger. Im hearing Fairfield County in CT is pretty crazy, but if you can drive north, you'll find less congestion.
