Can only pick 3. Let's see 'em.
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

    The Thing (1982)
    Fright Night (1985)
    Dawn Of The Dead (1978)

Actually I'm pretty confident in my three. At least The Thing and Dawn Of The Dead. Fright Night might be interchangeable if I'm looking for something more scary, but it's good to have an 80's light horror in the mix, like that or Lost Boys. But I'll stick with Fright Night.

    Now hurry up!!!!

    1. Return of the Living Dead (Do ya wanna party?)
    2. The Changeling (Just thinking about the seance scene gives me serious chills.)
    3. Evil Dead 2 (Groovy.)

    I'm an 80's horror whore.

(honorable mentions: The Shining and Nightmare on Elm Street)

Exorcist would be in my top 5.

Thats awesome about the movie showings. Not enough places do that kind of stuff.

BTW, I'm one of the few that thinks Halloween III is a good stand alone movie. I enjoy it.

I find it interesting that you like a pair of sequels there, especially the second Human Centipede.

Hey, he's made some good ones. "The Fog" probably would have been on my list if we were going 5 or possibly 10. John Carpenter's Vampires was awesome, at least when I saw it in theaters as a teenager and when it first came out on DVD, I haven't seen it since though. Ghosts of Mars not so much though, I was able to sit through it, but Ice Cube wore me out.

I couldn't limit it to 3 when there are so many good ones. Lots of the ones mentioned here. I tend to like suspense over gore, although The Thing had plenty in both respects.

Since no one's mentioned them though, I've always been a huge fan of the classic horror films from the 30s and 40s, especially those made by Universal and those great noirish ones by Val Lewton (Cat People, The Seventh Victim, I Walked with a Zombie).

So I'd probably say Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, and Dracula.

I'm not able to get into those really old horror movies. But I respect them. Kind of like Robert Johnson and Elvis, they're not really my cup of tea, but I appreciate the influence over the artists I like.

And since I love Dracula the novel, it's one of my favorites, I'm not a fan of how the Bela Lugosi film strayed SO far. I love Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman as Dracula though, as it sticks to the source material, and Gary is the shit.

  • 'Nosferatu' is worth checking out. The first film based on Stoker's novel and still one of the creepiest characters to appear in cinema. It's a silent film but the imagery is still iconic. One of my favourite films.

'Shadow of the vampire' is a comedy based on the filming of Nosferatu but the vampire (William Defoe) is a real vampire and only the director (John Malkovich) knows this. He plays it off to the rest of the cast as being an extreme method actor.

That sounds right up my alley, I'll have to check it out. I've never heard of it, and Willem Defoe is great.
