  • That is amazing. Never knew that existed to be honest with you. Wow is all I can say. Got another high bid $1250. Gonna pull the auction soon. You guys were right that around 1k-2k is the value. Definitely worth a lot more in my eyes plus I was really never looking to sell it. Does anyone know where I can get something like this authenticated? Would they have to take the piece out of the frame to authenticate?

Thanks for the input. Does anyone know where I can get something like this authenticated? Can they authenticate with it being framed or are they going to have to take it out of the frame?

The only person who can authenticate it for you is Ed or someone in the crew. When people have certificates for authetication, it really means nothing, anyone can print one up on their printer and put a nice hologram sticker on it to make it look official.

I know that for QVC, they would lock players in a room with no one else and then certify that the person who signed the item was that person.

I think Ed had signed a letter for his ukelele auction for the ferry.

    Thats a nice item

There are a couple routes to go for this kind of authentication. If you brought it to a respectable auction house, they would have it authenticated. That type of authentication, where an item is presented by a respected auction house, works to put people at ease about an item.

Now if you just wanted it authenticated, and then have a certificate for it. PSA/DNA is the #1 authentication company in the country, and I would say world.

They make mistakes like any other company in the world, but 98% of the time I would guess they are spot on perfect.

As for value. Having an item authenticated by PSA/DNA is pure gold from a selling standpoint. That sticker, or letter, will give you the desired effect.

People do and will trust it, and thus you could potentially double your price of around $1000.00. to perhaps close to double.

Now that process isn't cheap. Will probably cost you $100.00 or more for the authentication, when all the shipping is said and done.

Check out their website. They might even have Eddie Vedder in the price list.

    http://www.psacard.com/services/auto_authentication.chtml

Also there is JSA, they are just as good as PSA, with a ton of respect, but not quite as highly regarded as PSA.

Looks like they do EV for around $25-$35 plus shipping of course.

And yes. 100% it would have to come out of the frame for authentication.

Now with all that said. I can authenticate it. It is absolutely real, and in Eddies Hand. This board is usually good with a half a dozen of us who have a lot of experience looking at and authenticating Pearl Jam sigs.
  • Man I'd love to authenticate it but that is gonna be pricey if I have to take it out of the frame. Gonna cost me a ton to get re-framed. Some guy on eBay sent me an email.

"Not sure that this is Eddies writing.. I would be willing to give you $1900 for them. Would that work? I would also ask that you write up a letter stating how you got them. Lmk. I can Paypal money. thanks,L"

That's why I want it authenticated. Not for me because I'll never sell it but for the long term outlook. I asked the guy why would you spend $1900 on something that you don't think is Ed's handwriting. Again I told him it will not sell but I appreciate his interest. So the guy who said this was only worth a few hundred dollars was way off and that's without it being authenticated.

    Matt

    Two things.

    1. Yeah the dude who said $200.00 was off.
    2. The guy who said he's not sure it's EV's writing is using a technique to get you to accept his offer. He knows they are real, and is afraid you won't take his low ball offer. I would offer it to him for $2,400.00 and see if he bites.

I bet he might if you put a buy it now on there.

I think that would be a great deal for you.

    " Dear mattbergr101,

"So what would you sell them for? Just because they are onstage does not mean Eddie wrote it. All of Pjs setlists that are onstage are not written by Eddie. I would have to have the lyrics authenticated, so i would be taking the chance. Whats your bottom price on them? thanks"

Again I don't want to sell it. $2400 will not take it from me. I was being honest. I just wanna see much the thing is worth. I am going to get it authenticated this week for sure.

    Matt

I was asking on here the real value of the piece. Thought it was worth more than what people were telling me. So I put it on eBay with an absurd price that I think no one would ever buy it now. Some people told me I would never get a serious offer with such an absurd price. I have gotten offers in the general area of 500-2000. So I basically now know its value. I will take it off eBay get it authenticated and throw it back on my wall. Not trying to annoy anybody, just was updating what I got offered that's all.

Than that guy said something about not being his hand writing by Mr. Vedder. So it made want to get it authenticated even more. I checked his auctions and saw all different musician autos/set lists. He is the guy selling the basketball signed by Pearl Jam's seven members.

It's like the EdVed pick I got from Eddie in person, it's worth a lot for me but for the rest of the world it's just a guitar pick. You cant get money for the emotions you have for this pice of cardboard ;)

It's worth more than $1000 obviously if someone offered $1900 that is just common math sir. But yes I agree it is worth someone will offer me and that is what someone offered me. It is worth more to me than anyone else. I know that. I had a few guitar picks. I lost one and gave one to my close friend since he never gets to sit up close. They were from Mike though not Eddie

Does an autograph count when it's just his initials? And it says per word you get authenticated. You think I would have to pay per word on the lyrics? Just curious, going to call them on Monday.

    Matt
  • If you aren't planning on selling it, why bother authenticating? I mean, you know where it came from...is there something I'm missing?

I also think you've been offered pretty fair market price for this. I don't really see authenticating it sky rocketing its value. The market for a high priced thing like this is pretty small and it's clearly legit, so I don't see authentication netting you more than a couple hundred extra bucks.

This isn't my wheelhouse, though, so wtf do I know.

Good question. I don't know about the 'per word', but as to the initials, that should be no problem.

Eddie has signed his name, many different ways over the years. His initials is just one version of his signature.
  • I'm going to have to go with Dimi on this one. The only purpose for authentication is so that others know it's legit and have documentation to support a purchase. If the owner plans on retaining it and obtained it himself then authentication isn't necessary at this time.

As far as monetary value goes....this appears to be a one-of-a-kind item. An auction setting with multiple interested parties is generally the best gauge as to the monetary value of one-of-a-kind items. For example, take high dollar car auctions.... The auction is marketed very well so you get multiple interested parties in the same place at the same time. Multiple bids on the same item will give you the monetary value of an item at that singular point in time. No guarantee of future monetary value...just what the market was at that singular point in time.

I don't think a single person throwing out a number will give anyone a true monetary value on an item. Trust me, I've overpaid for some stuff. Why?....because I had to have it. Could I re-sell it for what I paid? Hell no....

    Just my 2 cents....

I don't at all understand why anyone else would want it that much (I wouldn't want it for free if I had to keep it - it is meaningless to me), but if I was the OP, and Ed had actually handed it to me during a show, it would be priceless to me and mean so much (I wouldn't even think about what it's worth, since I'd never even consider selling it, so I am not sure why OP is so into authentication or value if he claims he's not selling, and yeah, why the hell is the eBay listing still there?? If someone bids are you just going say... what? Haha, sorry bud, you may have been agonizing over whether or not you wanted this, how much you're willing to pay... maybe you even decided not to buy something else so you could bid on this... well, too bad, so sad, it's not even really for sale, sucker! :?).
