It was the altitude

CNN) - Former Vice President Al Gore’s analysis of President Barack Obama’s debate performance Wednesday: the Mile High City may be to blame.
Pundits and a CNN poll of those who watched the debate both found GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s showing to be stronger than Obama’s, who some described as appearing tired and long-winded.
“I’m going to say something controversial here,” Gore began. “Obama arrived in Denver at 2 pm today, just a few hours before the debate started. Romney did his debate prep in Denver.
“When you go to five thousand feet, and you only have a few hours to adjust, I don’t know,” Gore said, as other panelists in the post-debate discussion chimed in.
The video of Gore on his television channel, Current TV, was posted online by several right-leaning websites, as well as media-watching websites.
Obama flew on Sunday from Washington, D.C. to Henderson, Nevada, where he held a rally that evening. Between Sunday and his Wednesday flight to Colorado, Obama and his debate team prepared for the big night in a hotel ballroom there.
Henderson reaches just shy of a half mile up from sea level, according to the Henderson Executive Airport’s website, while Denver stretches a mile above sea level.
Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod defended his candidate on a Thursday conference call with reporters, saying he would leave evaluation of Obama’s “performance” alone because he is no “theater critic.”
“While Governor Romney had a very crisp performance, both candidates got points across,” Axelrod said. “Both candidates got something out of the debate.”
Romney, meanwhile, arrived in Denver Monday evening and also held a rally before hunkering down with advisers for his preparations.
Both candidates rewarded themselves with field trips between study sessions. Obama visited the Hoover Dam on Tuesday and stopped by a Nevada office for his campaign on Monday. Romney and Sen. Rob Portman, who was aiding in his debate preparations, stopped in at a Chipotle restaurant on Tuesday.

(and I really need to start watching this show again!)
  • Honestly people... if giving a dull performance in a debate changed anything, Jan Brewer would be working as a cashier at Chik-Fil-A.

Debates don't change anything and they haven't since that one time in 1980 and that other time in 1960.

There was no "there you go again" moment in this. Just a string of talking points. Mitt Romney didn't make as much of as ass of himself as people expected, Barack Obama didn't make us stand on the table and cheer like he has in the past.

But nobody changed their minds. Nor will they.

I have had discussion with a few democrats here in Hollywood today. From what I can gather first hand, people are talking about Romney. Interested in his ideas. Thinking....

One even said to me "shit, maybe I will vote for Romney and just not tell anybody". As I was walking away i turned around and said "you should, even if it's just for your children". Don't kid yourself, Vicotry is in sight.

    WOOT!

    Fully outsmarted and definately outclassed.

And I have Republican friends and relatives on Wall St. and in the NY banking and financial industries who crossed party lines in 2008 and will do so again this year.

What it comes down to is: who is telling the truth?

That is an interesting point. I live at 5000 feet and people from out of town are always tired at first when they come here.

A silly thing for Gore to say.
Obama got his clock cleaned. That's it.

When I got beat up as a kid, I admitted it, moved on, learned karate and beat the hell out of the Kobra Kai in a tournament........what else can you do?

  • Yeah. I'm sure you were talking to a Democrat in Hollywood today.

Nobody is "interested in his ideas."

There was really not a single new thing in that debate last night other than all the talking points read out. It's not like there were any revelations last night at all other than the president wasn't as fired up as usual and Romney treated Jim Lehrer like 'the help' as usual (and Lehrer let him).

Let's see him try that shit with Candy Crowley.

Honestly... you'd think that you'd be a bit less celebratory that your guy said the opposite of what he said last week.

Like someone else said earlier no one is going to change their minds in droves based on a debate. It would be the same had it gone the other way. This election is not checkers, it's more like chess. You out smart me here, (I didn't watch all of it but the parts i saw Romney got the best of Obama) I'll make a better move here....it's not how you start this election it's how you finish.

There's more fireworks to come now knight me...I'm about to set a trap. :D

That's the first thing I thought about that post... you were talking to democrats who saw the debate and are now thinking that Romney might be okay? BS!!

For the record... if that guy actually lived here, we'd have run him out of town on a big fat rail years ago.

I actually DO live here. And no.. today at Tender Greens, people were just saying "wow... he looked tired.. must have been up shagging Michelle all night. Oh.. have you tried the Lentil Salad? Amazing."

then we all got our text message asking us to enter a number to donate money to the president... we did... we finished lunch and went back to our studios.

    the end.

yea but it's a more pleasent topic and there's always room for Rock n Roll/Blues,after all this is a forum born of a Rock n Roll Band

but back on topic; I can actually see the altitude affecting some folks but lets just call it what it is Obama didn't show up with his "A" game,if you're supporting either you still have to see the general outcome of the debate was not Obama's best night.
