It seems KROQ in California is already confirming the tour. I'm sure Soundgarden can hire a touring drummer if that were the case. Or seeing as Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins won't be busy for a while, maybe one of them can fill in...I'd be ok with that.

  • Good find.
Not surprised, drumming for a band like Pearl Jam or Soundgarden is a full body experience.
  • yeah...was normal thing to happen..

Sorry but Matt Cameron IS Soundgarden. Without him, it's like going to a football game with no teams on the field!!!

Seeing anyone behind the SG kit besides Matt Cameron would be a joke. If anything Dave Grohl would be the drummer for PJ and not SG.

PJ and Soundgarden would not tour at the same time, so it won't happen either way.

LMAO good luck finding someone to fill in for Matt on any SG material i don't even want to see a live soundgarden without matt behind the kit. Pearl Jam however can call up anyone (Jack Irons) hell even the two you just mentioned could join the band on stage and not much would change, they would be pretty much the same band but soundgarden could not exist.

Does anyone think Dave Grohl would drum for PJ, especially after being leader of his own band :lol::lol:.

He's also a founding member of them crooked vultures...big difference between being leader and founding member of a band and going off to drum for a band who's drummer left them to rejoin his original band...

So you don't think Dave would help out some friends to do a one off tour? (couple of dates) I'm not saying he would join them for good, you're making it sound like hes above joining PJ on stage which clearly is'nt the case.

Dave Grohl was the drummer for Queens of the Stone Age and for Tenacious D, where he was neither founder nor frontman. I doubt he would take a PJ drumming gig, but he is a pretty nice guy (and kick-ass drummer).

I concur with the folks who don't see Soundgarden w/o Matt. His drumming is integral, and there's nobody on earth who drums like Matt did/does with SG. PJ drummers need to be nice dudes, but SG drummers need to be Matt Cameron.

Probably a pointless discussion since I doubt they'd do more than a couple shows together...doubt they'll do a full tour together.

Why not...he drums for Tenacious D, Queens of the Stone Age and Trent Reznor.

I think that would actually be awesome if he or Taylor filled in for PJ and Matt played with SG. I'd definitely pay king's ransom to see that tour!

  • I'd shit my pants if Soundgarden and PJ toured together. Nice to think about- but it's not going to happen.

Grohl stepped in and drummed for Cage the Elephant on their last go-around. Granted they were touring together, but it goes to show you he digs playing the drums and isn't 'choosy' for whom he plays for. Great guy and the epitome of a rock star.

Also, and not that it would ever happen, Grohl is easily good enough to sit in for SG. Just seemed like people were implying that he couldn't hang with the more technical stuff that SG plays, but he plays some pretty wild stuff in TCV. Any drummer that can hang with John Paul Jones can sure as hell hang with Ben Sheperd.

Recognizing that we're talking some serious what-iffs here...

Dave Grohl is certainly capable of hanging with the rest of Soundgarden, and could probably fill in. However, there is a definite style that Matt Cameron brings to the material that I can't imagine any other drummer of note being able to fill quite the same way. With SG, it really comes down to one thing: time signatures. Matt's SG drum parts (and thus the entire song) are wicked complex, almost math-rock-y. And with Matt, you know that it comes by feel and intuition, he's not sitting there counting 7-over-16 or whatever the hell the signature is on a given part. Dave also has a style that is tough to copy or reproduce. Expecially on Them Crooked Vultures stuff, Dave has shown that he can play some reasonably math-y drum beats, but I think Matt takes this cake.
