    Thats wrong...still hard to believe anywhere corporal punishment is allowed.

    The Mom makes a great point if she herself left marks like that on her own child...
    child protective services would be at her house.

    This kind of punishment should never be an option, it is abusive and humiliating.
    I see in the article Georgia is one of the few states with backwards ways ... no pun intended.
    I have never heard of or known any child being paddled, but we need a law to outlaw
    that. Time to write my representatives and Governor Deal. :fp:

    This was big on the local news last night (Dallas-Fort Worth). I was surprised to learn about it too. This happened in a small town and a small school district, which may have something to do with it. Most of the school districts in the area don't allow corporal punishment.

    Supposedly the rule saying that male administrators may paddle male students and female administrators paddle female students was implemented last year. Now they've revised it so that a male administrator may paddle a female student if a female witness is present. :roll:

    I keep trying to tell people that we're not all wackos in Texas but stories like this don't help.

    I and my friends got the paddle a few times in grade school and my parents gave the go a head but this is different and a different time.

    Our elementary principle had a full size "pledge" paddle. He would call parents to ask before admineristing punishment ... parents rarely objected.

    It was a simpler time. :fp:

    I think that might be putting it mildly.

    Watching this on the news last night, my husband and I could both remember kids being paddled in grade school but I never knew of it in high school. He said that kids got paddled at his high school--mainly football players paddled by the coach. :roll:

    I'm a little older than most people here so this wasn't just a simpler time, it was prehistoric.

    Dunno. Dunno how effective it is to begin with. But I still agree that too many parents are making other do their jobs for them, including teachers.

    Honestly, I am not a parent, and I don't want kids. I really don't feel that I would raise a hand to my child if I were to have one though.
    But again, I am not a parent and don't want to be, so......

    Around 10 i'd say, i take an Spanking over Punishment any day at that age, the trick is not to let the parent know this!
